‘Off white render’?!? With stone?

We are half way through a renovation of a 1950s/60s house. The outside has always been my biggest issue as the brick isn’t very nice so I knew we would always want to render. However I like houses with a bit of character and felt all over render would look too plain. To try and add some character and texture when we have built the new extensions (one over the garage and one at the back) we did them out of sandstone, and the plan is to rip the brick chimney down and build it back up chunky and more modern looking with stone. See current state of house below.
The dilemma is when it comes to the render colour for the main body of the house. I think we have now settled on Agate Grey for the windows. I want a sort of modern farmhouse style look, but I can’t seem to find any good examples of houses where they’ve mixed stone and render (maybe it isn’t a done thing but too late now 🙈). I want the house to feel fresh and modern which is why I initially thought a white render, but I’m unsure if that will be too stark a contrast with the stone? I think white would match the window colour nicely but am not sure I want a really bright white. However whenever I look at off white renders they seem very creamy and I’m concerned that will make the house look more old fashioned? Also there seems to be so many ‘off whites’ I don’t know where to start! Any thoughts very much appreciated! Especially if anyone has a picture of a house where they have done a render and stone combination? Or any suggestions on good render colours!

Comments (7)I presume you will be wishing to render the whole house?? I'd check what's under the 'tiles' at the top there. That style of tiling is often done on roofing battens with membrane behind and not brick. Therefore, it would not immediately lend itself to being rendered. If this is the case you could consider an alternative covering from Marley for instance who sell a good selection of products for roofs, fascias, cladding etc Marley I'd start by bricking half the large window of the lounge and bringing it out of the 60's / 70's. Change the fascias and the red tiles. Comments (4)I won’t share a photo for privacy reasons, but my neighbours have gone for shaded or shadow white. It looks very nice, but a lot will depend on the style of the house. Comments (4)I much prefer natural brick to painted. I know the bricks aren’t an exact match but then they are very different eras. Why not tart up the area with plants in pots, some garden ornament and maybe a lovely mirror? Painting the walls will mean you have extra upkeep. The walls will need repainting every few years. If you definitely want to paint the extension wall, then maybe a pale terracotta will sit well with the older wall. Not too dark or it will be dingy. After a little light demolition and changing the window apertures there is no doubt the house needs either rendering or cladding. I think brilliant white render could conflict with your softer farmhouse aesthetic so I would consider a stone colour (careful it doesn’t look peach) or a deep colour such as dark green or brown that sits well in leafy setting.
