First new home, colour and style help please!
Comments (12)Hi. I agree with shelleyuk about switching the sofas - I would put the green one where the cream one is (because it has the chaise part it looks like it blocks the area too much where it currently is and would be better near the wall). If you don't want to move the radiator, I would put the TV on a sideboard on the right of the back doors and then have the cream sofa in front of the radiator. Hang a big piece of art above it. I'd also get quite a big coffee table and play with the cushions so that some that came with the green sofa are on the cream sofa so it ties it all together. I wouldn't bother with curtains unless you need it for heat because they are nice doors letting in a lot of light with a good view of the garden. I can't really tell where the foot traffic will be and what is behind the cream sofa. Is there enough room for a separate seating area? Or a console table behind the sofa?...See MoreHelp style our lounge please
Comments (3)I'd expand on the Art Deco feel with the chair and mirror. Try a glass chrome coffee table. 1st is from basicelegancefurnishings and the 2nd is from shrops design. I'd have the blinds in either eau de nil or very pale pink (plain would work but preferably a pattern) as the rug is plain. team with same colour cushions for the sofa. I'd also add some patterned cushions to the sofa, maybe something with a white pattern and some texture. I'd get a console for the alcove the same height as the top of the tv and have a couple of large vases or something beneath it. I have ginger jars under one of my mine, maybe something in chrome would look good. I'd then add same size pictures and hang in either side of the alcove....See Morebuffet credenza stying
Comments (0)We finally have some furniture! Two credenzas flanking the entrance door. Please can I have some advice on how to style them? Should both be symmetrically styled? Should I have lamps on both? We don’t want it too formal. It’s a holiday home....See MoreWindow style advice please
Comments (47)Hmmm, I totally agree that function is more important than form, but I do wonder if you're right to go back to transoms because of the limitations of one window company. I think if it were me (I do have a really strong dislike of transoms though, so maybe this is just me!), I would stick with trying to get the look I liked, but with the necessary functionality/security. I would investigate some other options, eg: - top hung as LTS suggested - tilt and turn (they can work really well if you have deep recesses - they are only problematic with window coverings if you have shallow recesses which mean that they "tilt" into a blind or curtains. Why did your window company advise against them? It might be as simple as they're trickier for them to make, or they make less profit margin on them). My parents have tilt and turn in deep recesses and they work really well - you can clean them easily from the inside and have them open in two different ways, including one which is completely secure for nighttime or when you're out in the day. I would have them too but our window recesses are too shallow so I'm in the process of working through other options with Velfac. I think that 3 equal sized panes is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing layout on your style of house. I suppose what I'm saying is, this isn't the only window company, another one might be able to give you everything you want - both the look and the function. It's a big investment and you don't want to regret your choices further down the line....See Moresgander
