Couple of pretty good choices there Joseph. I'd prefer the Marvin of the two. The Marvin wood/ultrex Elevate is nice as well, as are Kolbe, Andersen E series, and Loewen.

As far as your other comments, I'd strongly agree regarding sourcing a quality window. I'd suggest that does not preclude vinyl or other materials from consideration, and in fact, the North and the condensation issues that come along with a cold climate are not the best match for the highly absorbent pine that comes on the interior of most of today's wood windows. That said, wood certainly has a rich look and feel that is hard to match. If aesthetics and brand name are at the top of your list, you are on the right track.

Pella. Expensive but great quality.

Homesealed choices would be my spot on recommendations as well. Personally I would steer far away from anything Pella.

Pella is great quality???? Compared to what? Its not great quality.

Pella has made some improvements, but they are still one of the most common windows that we pull out and replace in under 15 years. I'd put them in a distant third place when talking about the "big 3", Marvin, Andersen, Pella.

The roll form cladding is a joke. They can often look on the outside and be rotted out. I have seen some that are in very good condition after 30 years, but the design of the house is key. 3’ overhangs can extend the life of any window. If they were free I would use them but as a paying customer they would be scratched.

I always recommend looking at the windows in person . All of different lines From each has have different positive and negatives and often the price difference Is told by the eye.
