Having moved house I have inherited the worlds slowest tumble dryer. It will get replaced when I rip out the kitchen next month. The new one is going to be free standing and will have to be condensing- anyone got any good recommendations?
Thanks for the votes for Miele- definitely on the list. What do you guys think of the speed? In my last house I have a vented dryer..... I think they have the lowest energy rating but it was quick- I’m used to drying the duvet cover in less than an hour and it now takes over two hours.
We had to get a new dryer last year since the last one packed in. Got an all singing and dancing condenser with heat pump exchange, A+++ rating and digital inverter. Not sure what half the jargon means tbh, but hubby reliably informs me that it consumes vastly less electric. Drying time is reasonable but not what I’d call quick but overall it’s pretty damn good. Ours was a Samsung (it makes a silly tune when it’s finished 🙂) but I’m sure there’s other brands with this technology.
I still use the same vented one I’ve used for donkeys years .... and I mean years. I dry a king size quilt cover in it within 20 minutes. Two hours is an horrendously long time.
Commenting on Miele, they are an excellent brand which is reflected in the price. My washing machine is a Miele (a treat to myself 😂) and it washes completely different to the standard Hotpoint brands. It cost an arm and a leg, and I took out the extended guarantee for 10 years. I could not recommend the brand enough. If I had the budget I would have all my appliances by Miele.
On a slight tangent, I had a gas tumble drier two houses ago. They obviously require venting, but it dried the clothes in minutes. It was in when we moved into the house, so I'm not sure if I would use one again, but no comparison with an electric only one.
Miele speed is good...I have one that is a sensor dryer so only dries until stuff is dry...usually about an hour for bedding and towels...seems much more efficient than the gas I had before!
I don’t have a tumble dryer, but I will say Miele are amazing. I bought a secondhand Miele washing machine for £50, which I then gifted to my brother when we had a new kitchen, which he then gifted to his niece when he had a new kitchen, and it is still going strong! I’ve read they can last 20 years or more so a good investment.
The utility is not near an outside wall so I don’t think venting will work but it would mean a faster dry so I’m looking into it.
Thanks for all the votes for Miele- I love that there was a Samsung vote too- I put a Samsung washer in my Mum’s house and so I’m familiar with the jingle.
Do you remember the adverts for gas tumble dryers?.... Joan Collins used to do it. searching YouTube now....
We’ve got a Samsung drier and it’s a heat pump! It says it’s meant to take longer drying but I personally find it quite quick. It’s got lots of settings and it’s fairly quiet. We went for it after reading lots of reviews. Very happy with it after 10 months or so.
@OnePlan -hello to Dorset. Does yours take long?- that’s my main gripe- its a pain to strip the bed, stuff it all in the washer for a hour but take 5 hours more to dry it!
Hi Jonathan ! A full load takes about 90mins to dry ! So not as quick as vented - but much better for the planet ! ( not as good as hanging it outside obviously! But who has time to do that these days !)
Thanks Karen that’s reassuring. I don’t know why my current one is so slow but it has made me think about what to choose next- it would be good to have an A+ rated appliance
