Dare i say it....................probably.......................conservatories have had their day. They will add space, but you have to keep closing the doors and going in and out as they're not the warmest of places unless you splash out on glass roofs, or dismiss the roof design and go for a solid plastered ceiling etc. I don't think it's dead space, it could be a really nice patio right outside the conservatory, after all, you wouldn't constantly want to sit on the grass, you have a patio. It's also directly off the lounge or dining area.........perfect. I know that extensions are more expensive, however, they add room and light because you can take the internal doors away. If you need more space, i'd get rid of the the conservatories and have an extension across the back taking in both spaces. Putting up another conservatory is just adding another box, and it will darken the room to the right and hide the lovely casement doors. So, an extension right across the back taking the two areas in is far preferable. It adds permanent space usable all year round with no internal doors getting in the way.

Could you block off the side door, re-locate the tv onto the back of 5he kitchen wall (where the leaf prints are) and turn the sofa to face the tv so its back runs parallel to the wall with the door and 2 windows. That way you can come in the back door and walk straight down to the kitchen but you’re walking past the side of the sofa rather than cutting between sitting area and tv. You could possibly build storage then along that left wall where the tv is currently (depending what you want to store).

Our first house had this type of hallway. We built a large cupboard accessed from the bedroom behind/next to it and made it into a wardrobe. It was very handy in our new build with no storage haha! I'm afraid I don't have any photos though. All our walls were stud walls so it was fairly easy to knock through and the joiner put a floor across the stairway to create the base.

Congratulations on your new home! How exciting! We think the paint colours you have selected sound lovely and a great place to start. The previous owners have placed wallpaper on opposite walls which has the effect of making the staircase look far more narrow than it actually is. I think it would look better to have the same treatment (paint / wallpaper) on all of the walls instead to open it up further.
