Your floor looks OK and you seem to have sufficient light coming through the window and bi-fold doors at the back, be it that I don't know the orientation of your house. Obviously, if it is a north facing room, you will not get as much light. I am assuming your kitchen units are off-white, right? A rooflight would have helped but not sure if this is a single storey rear extension or you have another floor above the Kitchen? Also, your Playroom has no natural ventilation or light, but hopefully this was intentional (games room??)

thanks Eulinea Ltd, we do have two roof lights actually, one main reason for this was to try get some natural light into the playroom... unfortunately we didn’t see a way to get natural light in there without - well - a complete remodel of the downstairs... we’re hoping light from the bi fold and roof light will help. What would you have done

its a single storey extension only at the moment but we may in the future build above the kitchen area only

yep cabinets are like a light mink/beige colour (called camel by wren)

im really struggling with the doors.. we went to a show room today. white shows all dirt so it’s prob down to oak or a painted one like this one (clay colour):

im just not moved by the oak... feel like too much going on with the floor..

then add furniture

Hmmm... what about your worktop, splashback and bi-fold doors - what colour are they?

I should add that the idea with the play room is that the majority of the time we’ll have the french doors open through to the back

we’re also debating swapping the dinning to the play room and having that back space as a family chill out spsce...

Worktop is a white with grey streak with a hint of brow/copper to bring out our copper profile

and bifold is anthracite grey (Builder’s doing.. long story)

I see... I would personally go for white doors, as you seem to have quite a lot going on in the kitchen as it is. Yes, they do get dirty etc. but equally, the paint is very good these days so you can wash it numerous times and every now and then, of course, you need to apply another top coat. Irina

Thanks Irina, I did lean towards white too when I saw it against a darker floor... seemed to work well

Think the show room doors were overly dirty so put me off but like you say with good maintenance...

so like solid engineered doors painted white until smooth?

You could get good quality white fire rated doors, as they are chunkier - all sorts of designs - check out Todd Doors for example

Maybe glass doors there - or pocket doors such as Eclisse, but they tend to be quite expensive
