Wrong fireplace
Comments (6)Ah yes, that's better. It does have room to be a bit grander. I'd remove the mantle, then see what you think about the width of the opening. I'd highly recommend not trying to amend that. Work with the width and decide on open fire versus log burner maybe? You can have either. I would probably pick the open fire & have a Victorian cast Iron style fireplace. You can then have cupboards built in possibly either side which match and help balance the room. Give it a wider hearth and a nice large mirror above it. You may find when you take away the mantle that the fireplace can be made taller. This would give you more options - for a log burner perhaps....See MoreIndia yellow for dark hall. Comments (36)Love the colour! Great job. Really warm, classy and cosy. As a suggestion, give your stairs a makeover. Remove the carpet, glue, paint, etc and sand, stain, varnish. I’m completing a house stair restoration using Indian F&B paint too. I decided to clean the stairs (33 in total) and wow! It’s incredible. I see already you have a stunning staircase hiding under years of decoration! Remove everything. Strip it back. I’m thrilled with mine and seeing your colour walls makes me really happy now with my choice....See MoreHow to approach new foundations for existing stone dwelling
Comments (2)Paul, I'm sure you value the building you own and want to ensure you have the right solution for the foundation design. Foundation design is based on many factors least of all the location and ground conditions of the site. To ask for a solution on a site such as this will probably lead to the wrong solution being provided. If you don't get an unqualified response that you end up following. My best advise is for you to engage the services of a structural engineer or building surveyor to review the site and provide you with a design for the foundations. You can get this from either the professional associations list of members or check for local firms on your chosen search engine. Please don't get information from this site. You will have no PI cover and could cost you in the long run. Best Rowland...See MoreDigging foundations for extension
Comments (3)It might be late but I think a raft foundation could be an option, but it's important to check with the water company to make sure they'll agree to it as an alternative. They may require you to dig foundations to the lower level of the pipe for safety reasons, which could be costly. In terms of compliance, you might want to look into api 7k drilling rig compliance for your project. This standard outlines the safety requirements for drilling equipment and can help ensure that your project is up to code. Overall, it's important to work closely with your architect and any relevant authorities to ensure that your extension is built safely and in compliance with all necessary regulations....See More- 5 years ago
