Hi all,
How deep do foundations need to be for single storey extension in UK?
I ask because the foul water drain is 2.6 metres below our extension. The architect is dealing with the application for build over permission but I'm trying to understand what this means. If foundations are say 1m deep then does that mean we are 1.6m away from pipe? therefore likely to be ok? I've also heard a rumour that water company will insist we dig foundations to the lower level of the pipe, but at 2.6 m this is going to cost a fortune.
I'm wondering if a raft foundation is an option and would the water company agree to that as an alternative?
If anyone has experience of this I would appreciate hearing from you. Getting worried all our planning and dreaming is going to fall flat on its face very soon :-(
