Carpet colour decisions

Hi,

I need to get carpet for stairs, landing and office and would like it look unified with the carpets already in bedrooms which are off the landing. Living room floor is oak and continues straight onto the stairs. 2 of the bedrooms have different carpets but they look similar. Pics attached. Do you think the last pic (Soft Truffle) would work with the existing carpets or is it too similar in colour and might look wrong? Should I go lighter or darker? I don’t want to use the same carpets as in the bedrooms for the stairs, as the pile would be too high. Any inspiration/opinions would be welcome 🙂

I think the 'Soft Truffle' would look nice with the crisp white skirting. Or if you wanted to blend the stairs because they are visible from the living area you could go for an Oyster colour on the stairs and landing only.

Thank you Edbury. I would like the carpet to blend the stairs with the living room floor since they both join on to each other and are visible together but it also needs to suit the existing carpets in the bedrooms. Do you think Oyster would suit the bedroom carpets or would the contrast of Soft Truffle be better?

I think the fire surround will look lovely painted the same colour as the wall ( as borne out by Minnie's pic. The only thing that sticks out for me is the mirror above the wood burner. It's just too large and dwarfs the little fire below. Hopefully, with the fire surround up it'll even up a bit, but i'd down size the mirro, also change the style, the rest of the room has some beautiful country cozy bits and bobs, love that other mirror btw ( not so country cozy ), the ox blood sofa, the flooring etc. Particularly like the dark rose colour on the chair pad that you can see in your second pic, goes really well with the green. Maybe you could pick up a mirror with a chunky carved frame and paint it to match that rose and the sofa? Or go for something like this that gels well with the floor, the sofa and the walls

I don't think it will date. I do think that some styles of cabinets will date sooner than others. But different colour island than wall cabinets is a timeless look in my opinion. The green is gorgeous. A safer choice would probably be the darkest blue/black (?) And i like that with the white that's on the right in the photo. The other white has a pink undertone it seems and I expect that to give a problem with wall colours for example.

Your house looks familiar, have you been on Houzz before with a similar dilemma? Not a criticism, just wondered! I’m glad you are getting rid of the porch as I love the arches of 1930s houses. Mine is a mini version of yours! I think front door colours is one of the most common dilemmas on here. Black is a great colour on 1930s front doors and a black garage will look very smart. You could have a black or a white garage and a coloured door of your choice such as the peacock blue. I love bold colours and my front door is F&B Cooks Blue, my neighbour has lilac and across the road is a door in sage green. . I love the black & white tiles. I have an original version of them on my front door step, so they really are in keeping. Here’s some ideas, the first is a peacock bluish garage!

I would stick with number 2 if any of them. I'm presuming it is an old farm house ? If so keep in mind the surroundings when choosing colour. You've chosen the right style door. Replacing the fence with either a hedge or a more traditional style fence would improve property immensely. Is that your barn ??....its lovely. Paint the barn door a matching colour and paint windows too. If looking at the property straight on you need a tree in the front left corner of garden to add interest to that side of property. Have fun !....you've got so much potential there.

'Soft Truffle' will not "blend" with the living room flooring, however, it could be a nice contrast if your colour palette in your living area of your home has similar tones to that of the 'Soft Truffle' colour. It then of course blends quite nicely with the carpet you already have in the bedrooms etc.

The bedroom carpets look grey, is that right? I only ask as sometimes computer screens can distort colour. If so then maybe a grey patterned carpet with a subtle tweed effect go well. Something like this, and you can see how nicely it goes with the wooden floor in the first pic.

Hi Sonia, no actually the bedroom carpets are more of a warm taupe colour. They must just look grey on different screens! I’ve attached a couple of links after the pics for each carpet which might show a more accurate colour likeness. Edbury, below are pics of the sofa and rug in the living room, so I’m leaning more towards the Soft Truffle I think. What do you both think?
