We are in the very early stages of planning for our future home. We have land next to my mom that we will be building on in the next 2 years. Would a builder like Schumacher Homes or Americas Home Place be a more cost effective option than a small local builder? I see on Schumacher a 1400 sq ft house in my area is starting at 191k. If we picked a similar sized plan, but used a local builder, are we looking at higher prices, about the same price, or lower on a home of similar size? I know there are many variables to pricing a home, but it seems Schumacher and places like that only offer more high end finishes...like I would just want simple subway tile, not beveled subway tile...and butcher block counters, not granite..etc. So considering that, would a large builder like Schumacher be more cost effective using their lower grade finishes, or could I get the cost down pretty significantly using a local builder and more basic finishes?
