I think both are nice styles, subway is a tried and true classic.. Herringbone a bit more "modern" can look a bit busier and therefor I'd go with less of a patterned floor; not sure if you are wanting floor like image you selected? Shiny would be easier to clean but may show more dirt due to sheen. These are just my thoughts. I have glazed subway tile in shower but not behind toilet.

Thanks A Gignac for your advice. We are going for the same porcelain tile we have in the kitchen. Would love to brave & go for the rose herringbone but my husband prefers white metro. The glazed subway tile sounds lovely that you have in your shower.

If you are going for the tiles you have in the kitchen then I would opt for plainer tiles to go with them otherwise it might look a bit too busy, or have herringbone with the same coloured grout as the tile.

I love the look of those rose coloured tiles and like them with the colour of your floor but not sure about how busy it may look. If you love them, then why not choose a plainer large format tile for the floor that is the same colour as your other floor tiles. Does this make sense?

Round mirror over the sink would look very smart. Back to tiles, how about Zellige tiles? They have a pearly finish and come in lots of shades, including lovely soft whites. Or octagonal?

I would have a think about what you love the most, eg is it the rose herringbone tiles? If so, what could you do to make those the star of the show? If you add too many different colours, patterns, metals, textures etc it make lose the impact of the tiles.

Do you think the stiffkey blue is too dark? Should I tone down the walls? Many thanks

Thanks Sonia, I was thinking the same. I do love the blue but think it will be too dark. I have grey farrow & ball in the hall so I think I need to be subtle on the walls. I’ve read so many comments about going dramatic in a downstairs toilet but your right keep it simple & let the tiles be the feature. Any advice on colour other than white? All White by F&B is lovely and fresh. Or maybe a very pale grey like Gauze by Little Greene (there are 4 shades).

It depends on all the other things in the room, especially the floor tiles. I would be tempted to commit to the rose wall tiles if you love them and then find a wall colour and floor tile that works in harmony with them.

Are you building out a false wall like in the picture, it looks really good? Why don't you place the floor tiles in the room and photograph it. it might help to decide how to progress.

Yes Julia, I know it limits the space but we really wanted to create a wall hung & wall mounted taps. My head is scrambled deciding on stacked/herringbone style 🤯 I do love this style. Definitely think lighter walls as Sonia suggested will enhance the tile

I think the false wall is a really good idea, wall mounted taps look fabulous and if you wanted you could then have a mirror fitted wall to wall above it. For me, the floor tiles are a big factor so if you are tied to using ones you already have then if you can, photograph them in the space.

These tiles from Claybrook are the most stunning I've seen for al long time. The glaze is beautiful and breaks on the edge to reveal a darker hue underneath. I would have these with enormous warm grey porcelain floor tiles

I would suggest that the wall tiles and the floor tiles should have the same finish. In this case the floor tiles are matt. They are called Morrocco and they have 20% discount at the moment at Easy Bathrooms.

In terms of the wall tiles i think brick layout will better because it wont look too busy.

So many times I've come across articles which focus on design and ignore practicality. False walls and concealed pipe runs look great and but require absolute competence from the plumber to avoid leaks. Don't spend £1000's on decoration and £40 on cheap taps which will not last long. Spend money on getting the tanking done properly so that showers don't leak and if fitting a freestanding bath seal around the base so that water from splashes does not run under and drip onto the ceiling below. Just remember that every concealed joint on water carrying pipework is a potential leak and any repairs will ruin the lovely finish you have spent hours agonising over. Oh and don't forget to install a good water softener to keep everything limescale free or those nice new surfaces will soon look tired.

Hi looking for kitchen tile advice this time. I love Raku range suggested by Juliet & would love to create a splash back in the kitchen. Any suggestions on which colour & any particular pattern style. Our island is F&B Railings. I do like the dark Raku with this pattern but not too sure if the area big enough. As always any advice greatly received! 🙏

What length is that wall you are considering putting the tiles on? Are the base units on the run the same as island unit colour? I love the tiles but don't think it will work. Think it's the bands of dark,light,dark,light that I don't imagine will work for me.

Look at Mandarin Stone Hoxton range. They are similar in that the glaze is beautiful but totally different colours.
