Hi Lusmagh, your hallway is stunning! I would leave it the way it looks now and add some nice features to it like a console table with lamps and accessories, a lighter shade of rug on the floor, indoor plants, artwork on the walls, a bench and a beautiful chandelier. Sorry if my answer didn't help but I would make the most of the space available and enhance it's best features. I think this wallpaper might will make the space a lot more darker than it is now.

I agree with rinked, insomuch that it’s too similar to the floor. You need more of a contrast.

Did some mauve and a dark grey as well. All depending on your taste.

Personally, I like the offwhite look. Some artwork like wood carvings and/or wall sconces will give the hallway some grandeur.

Great looking hallway, but I really don't like the floor. Sorry I'm sure it took a lot of effort to restore, but I think it lets the whole place down. It's too grey a bit like a garage floor? And makes the hallway look a little gloomy. I think a wood or cream marble floor would really lift the place by adding a lot of warmth and make it more welcoming.

This is what it would look like with your wall paper. Based on the sample you had stuck on the wall and with a cream marble floor...

Arc3d, my hallway (and kitchen) has similar terrazzo and isn't gloomy at all (and my hallway is 1m wide in a tiny 50s terrace) walls are painted white (lower half) and sunflower yellow (up).

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate that not everyone is going to like the floor - it’s not to everyone’s taste, but in its defence I think the pictures don’t do it justice.

I see what you mean about keeping the wall under the dado rail white or off white but my worry is that there is too much white going on and it will look rather stark and clinical. I have included a few more recent photos that show the addition of some doors which are white and the spindles on the stairs will be white too. I also have the landing to consider which has a lot more light coming in and feel that it just might lack warmth and character. The house is over 100 years old and while I don’t want it to look old fashioned, I don’t want it to lack character. My feeling with the textured wallpaper is that it will add some depth and character and break up the expanse of the walls which are 3.4m high.

Of course I’m not a professional though so worry about how I imagine things - and then it’s too late!! We’ve done the whole house over the last 5 years and no regrets yet - but there’s always a first! It’s not that it can’t be changed but it’s costly.

The floor is currently covered up to protect it and I’ve included a picture of the chandelier that I have bought! I need 4 😱

Once you start decorating it won't look stark with all the white. And remember: can always paint/paper later. White is great to start with.

I also don’t think you need the wallpaper. I like the walls as they are, although I admit the space needs ‘warming up’ & will look stunning with the right furnishings. I think it needs a bit of warm / darkish wood - a couple of console tables would be good. Also is the handrail on the stairs going to be wooden? A small upholstered bench or seat could bring in some colour. Some large plants would also help plus with artwork / mirrors I think you’d have enough without doing the walls.

I think you’re hall is stunning and I like the floor too. I would keep the walls plain for now and agree with others that consoles, a nice chair, plants, mirror, artwork will just enhance its beauty. I don’t think it will look cold. Let us know what you decide

Your hallway is magnificent. I personally think that wallpaper will not go especially when you add the chandeliers. Hoping they are large enough? I would go for a lighter painted walls all in one paler colour and have you thought about a bolder, contrasting paint on the ceiling instead? It will make those chandeliers really stand out and add the interest you are looking for. Or if you really want the wallpaper then go for a different one like a textured and natural wall paper like sisal would look elegant. Sounds like you have made your mind up though. Sometimes you just need to trust your gut instinct though! What an amazing entrance way!

Love the terrazzo floor ( would love one myself) It will look overwhelming when the space is empty, once you have furniture, art on the walls, and the chandeliers installed it will look bright, airy and welcoming, and the ‘too much white’ will disappear.

I also LOVE the floor and prefer the wall white without the wallpaper. I'm personally a fan of keeping the base neutral and adding personality with furniture and accessories. It's a lot easier to change and update! Agree that it only looks stark and clinical because it's currently empty. Once you've filled the space, it'll look amazing no doubt.x

Beautiful hall and beautiful floor. Reminds of the flooring at my relatives homes in Italy. Why not paint the walls in warm shades such as F&B Skimming Stone or Setting Plaster, then add art, a mirror, a console table and bench. Love the chandeliers. It will create a sort of faded grandeur but in a good way! Just gorgeous.

Thank you all. Just to answer a few questions. The handrail is oak so won’t be painted white and the dimensions of the chandelier are 35cm in diameter by 57cm high - the total drop including chain from the ceiling will be just under a meter.

Another vote for ‘the palest pink imaginable’. I’ve just painted my bedroom in Craig and Rose Pearl White and it really is that—a soft pink that only reads explicitly as pink next to stark white. It would look stunning with your terrazzo floor and white woodwork.
