We have engineered wood (floating over cement floor) throughout the ground floor and love it - it's easy to keep clean and looks fantastic. I've had a few hot oil splashes in the kitchen and it cleans up just fine. My husband fitted it (experienced DIYer) and he says it was easy and straightforward, he followed the same logic - you can rectify a disaster with floating floor, whereas once glued there is no going back. I've also noticed the floor contracting /expanding a tiny bit throughout the year which I'm not sure how would work out if it was glued down. The only thing I'd say is make sure you cement underfloor is as level as possible, and then level it out some more - we didn't bother too much and the floorboards do squeak in one place over a slightly uneven bit. We got the best insulation we found and I'd never noticed it being particularly cold. We are moving next year and having the same floor but with underfloor heating and no radiators - it'd be fabulous! Good luck on your project!

This is clearly an estate agents plan and they always ensure the dimensions are as large as possible. Either this is a mistake or perhaps part of the shower room is actually protruding into the kitchen area? Or possibly the cabinets on the right hand side of the sink are tall units and the person measuring measured from the face of the doors?

I still have a utility cupboard, downstairs wc and through lounge to redecorate before I start thinking of heading upstairs @ Carolina thank you!! Really went out of comfort zone but I think it has turned out well. @ Patrina awesome! Well, in total there are 3 pendants in which the hallway is lit. I'm not a big fan of very large chandeliers so I've no idea! However, I do have some oddly shaped bulbs and brass coloured pendants floating around that I'll fit to see how well it goes. Any suggestions? Spent the day with the kids picnicing so no day time pics but I think some moody night shots go really nice. Here they are Tomorrow I'll fit the skirting boards and pop on the light fixtures I have.

I understand that a 'floating' floor such as laminate or traditional LVT should never be laid before kitchen cabinets and island because it needs to be able to contract and expand with temperature changes. But the newer version of LVT known as SPC is said to be more stable and does not expand and contract. I which case it is safe and best to lay this floor first in the empty room for a truly seamless look. We're having waterfall quartz on our island ends so really don't want to have to put trim on to cover gaps in flooring. SPC should be OK to run under island before installation even if it isn't glue down? The click style will be floating but it doesn't require expansion gaps am I right?
