Maybe a walnut stain but it will need to be tested for sure IMO the darker you go the better and try to avoid any reds or grays .

Red oak and white oak will never match in a light tone. The red oak will look more white if, not pink after pre-treating and staining. The white oak will be white, grayish and brown. If, there isn't a lot of square footage, remove the new red oak and replace with white oak.

that’s what they should’ve done but they already removed the old tile and replaced it with red oak 😭. Apparently the old is a mixture of white and red, but really there’s no reddish in it once it was sanded. Do you know of a light / natural stain color we could put on top to get it closer to same ?

The old does not have a mix of red and white.

You can do one coat of pink blocker on the red oak. Then use Naturalseal on both. One coat of pink blocker on new red oak will turn out pretty light compared to old red oak.

I think you've already gotten the answer to that. Sorry you're not happy about it. Look at some photos with darker stains, and maybe you can get your enthusiasm back up.

@g&sfloorservice - I can put the pink blocker just on the red oak “new” floors and not on the old floors adjacent to them?

Apply only on the red oak. It will make it lighter, not necessarily match it.

Agree with the recommendation from G&S. I don't know of any alternatives to the pink blocker. Try the Naturalseal without it.

Jenna, green cancels red. you can try playing w/more ashy stain colors (which don't have any red to it) on the red oak, and putting the same tone on the white oak to see if they match.

here is a red oak (top) feathered in w/white oak. you can see the slight pink tones.

If you use a darker stain, you won't be able to see any red.

If you want light and natural, then it's going to look slightly different.

Instead of getting the red oak to look like white, you could slightly tint the white oak to match the red. that might be a bit easier.

In the area where the two join together, will there be any furniture or a rug? a table? anything that visually 'blocks' where the two meet should work.
