Comments (23)I agree, converting the garage would improve the kerb appeal as you'd get a nice double frontage instead of a garage door staring at you. If you need to keep the garage then you could at least paint the door so it does contrast=stand out so much. Better planting to frame the front door + a new front door would be a massive improvement too. I wouldn't worry about grey windows, though - it is a bit of a fad and will soon fall out of favour just as brown Windows have. Also, I can't see that they would go with the brickwork....See MoreLighting design help - needed urgently ASAP
Comments (6)I do have several comments/suggestions for you. It is worth planning where your table is going and lighting appropriately. If this is your main dining area, or you plan to entertain you will definitely want to be able to dim the lights. I'm not sure how serious a cook you are, but you might prefer to have spotlights over the island for task lighting and pendants over the table. Height of the lights and bulb brightness would affect this decision. Speaking totally as a layperson, it looks like you would need some lighting between the island and the right hand side of the room. LED spotlights do not light laterally as far as you think they might and you could end up with a dull area. Finally, you will be asked if you want warm or white spotlights, so be sure you know how your choice will affect the colour of things like the floor and cupboard surfaces. Good luck with your project....See MoreNeed advice asap before I purchase this property!
Comments (25)Hi Lola, I like the sketches "Man about the house" did, these show a simple corridor. The issue may be that the thickness of the wall takes off the room and it creates a very dark corridor. I had an almost identical problem on a recent project so I did a glass wall with sliding glass doors. This saved space and allowed loads of light into the hall area. I also added full length curtains behind the glass for privacy obviously. Here is a picture of the room when it was finished.
