Lighting design help - needed urgently ASAP

Please see above my plans are these ok, or can anyone recommend any improvements to these before they are submitted?

The rectangle is the kitchen island, then there is an L shaped kitchen either side of this.One side where the writing is has full length cabinets, the other to the other side has low level counter, possibly some top cabinets undecided at the moment.

the two spotlights adjacent to the island are to go over dining room table? Im not sure about these? It needs lighting, but if for any reason I move the table not sure.. I dont want to go spot heavy, but its a large room, please help..

Any advice/help much appreciated

The plan looks fine - I wouldn't suggest you need any more downlight, and would recommend you put some circuits on dimmers.

The LED tape around the perimeter of the roof light will work well. I'd recommend trying to conceal it by creating a recess in which it sits to avoid seeing the tape itself, only the subtle glow.

Would you have the tape nearer the glass, or at the base? I think i'd probably prefer it higher up. Thank you so much.

As I can see that you dearly need more storage space !!! The Myson needs a depth of 302mm so you could use half depth tall or base cabinets or if the room lends itself to it - ie without cramping the entrance and exits - you have a full size DW to fit in - ideally near the sink and bin would be better than where it is now - but you also need to avoid putting it in the corners or when it's open you won't be able to reach across to put anything away ! Its always tricky to advise with no measurements - and no info about you or your family - or on wether you are looking to do this on a tight budget or a lavish one ! If you are looking to just do it up and sell the home - my advice would be to nip into your local kitchen shop and seek their advice and planning service as a generic kitchen plan would be fine for this purpose. If this is your home for a good few years yet - then I'd suggest getting a design done specifically for you, to suit not only the room - but how you cook, how much storage you need and how much prep area you need too etc etc - a bank of Tall units might well be the way to go - but it does take away worktop space, and the hatch ( if you use it ) - there may be other options - had you thought about including the dining room to make the space one large kitchen diner ?! Or having tall but half depth cabinets along one side to give easy access storage and a longer sink run ? Having a built under fridge and freezer or moving the current one to what might be storage behind one of those doors like Lisa suggested ? That way there may even be room for a freestanding chopping block or modern mini moveable island in the middle of the room - if that's the kind of thing that would work for you ?! Depending on what's behind those solid doors - You could even consider blocking up the back door and changing part of the window to a door and having a galley kitchen ?! There are so many options - (and so many unknowns ) a designer needs to know more about you, your budget and your hopes and dreams for the place ! Don't limit yourself to just replicating what's there !!! Hiring an independent kitchen designer isn't expensive - and shopping around can save you so much more than the design fee ! I know - as my clients tell me this all the time !!! Sorry that turned into a small book ! And my coffee has gone cold ! Coffee break over - will need to microwave it !!! ;-)

Hi. I think any dark, rich colour could work well (would paint the skirts in the wall colour) but if you didn't want to paint the furniture either a really deep teal or inky blue would work well. Perhaps use ochre or burnt orange as accent colours or moss or emerald/grass green work really well with an inky blue. I assume the ceilings aren't tanked so you'll need a ceiling fix pole? Having floor to ceiling curtains will make it feel taller. I'd also have a tall portrait leaner mirror on the wall opposite the window to make it feel taller and to bounce light (do you know where the stud work is for attaching things to walls?) Could you have a light weight canvas hung on the chimney breast attached with those sticky pads? Agree re lighting and would also add 1/2 floor lamps. Is an electric stove in budget for the chimney? My only reservation is dark walls against a white ceiling. I think my basement is the same height and I deliberated for ages and in the end painted it all white :) there is an argument that dark ceilings can create depth as you can't see where they end.. also an argument re white gloss or Matt finish for the ceilings! If you did go for dark walls though i might consider a mid shade for the ceiling

Thank you so much everyone for your help! Such great advice and trying my best to follow it all...I think the main problem is im not happy with the furniture or the carpet, or the fireplace bricks I feel it's stuck in the 70s and not a cosy up to date sitting room...I just can't relax in there! And I keep trying to fix one thing at a time making it worse! We decided not to keep curtains (we would have had two on each, we were just testing them but you're right, that put me off too just seeing it like that!) as yes, rug too busy...I only bought that to infuse some colour in such a bland room! I will try and use the colours in that or in pic above piano (which is the only thing I love in there!) and love the idea of bench style thing under tv thank you-we're on the case! Think I need to apply to 60 minute makeover and be done with trying to fix it myself

I do have several comments/suggestions for you. It is worth planning where your table is going and lighting appropriately. If this is your main dining area, or you plan to entertain you will definitely want to be able to dim the lights. I'm not sure how serious a cook you are, but you might prefer to have spotlights over the island for task lighting and pendants over the table. Height of the lights and bulb brightness would affect this decision. Speaking totally as a layperson, it looks like you would need some lighting between the island and the right hand side of the room. LED spotlights do not light laterally as far as you think they might and you could end up with a dull area. Finally, you will be asked if you want warm or white spotlights, so be sure you know how your choice will affect the colour of things like the floor and cupboard surfaces. Good luck with your project.

Further photos below. Placing the LED tape towards the top runs the risk of it reflecting in the glass.

I would only design lighting plans once I know furniture positions as you only need task lighting and accent lighting, a common mistake people make is to have a grid or symetrical layout of lighting.You don't need light fittings to light up floor areas where there is no furniture.
