I ensure in every quote viewed ll knowledge is used. But in some jobs there is always hidden work, forming a trader and client trust is essential so nothing gets missed but also nothing can be done as a freebie given some hidden work is a little bit bigger then a small touch of filler

I have always bought wrecks - I love renovating: and I completely agree with overpaying for a new renovation that is rubbish and soulless: I won't even view a house that has obviously been done up by one of the many "property developers" that infest London. I can cope with anything (have rectified asbestos, removed wood chip, put back period features and replaced everything from roof to digging up a floor to install underfloor heating in the past), but my absolute nos: dodgy neighbours/road, lack of off-street parking (London), a floor plan I can do nothing with, lack of potential to add value myself. I have seen (and met) some real horrors whilst looking for houses! Also, I have to have a period house: 1930s or older.

I finished my kitchen project last year and used I think about 8 or 9 different shades of grey all F&B. I mixed and matched so that they were all the same cool tones but every wall was painted a different colour - I did buy Pigeon but it was relegated to be used for something else. Its quite a subtle effect but you really get the change of light and shade at different times of the day and in different lights. I can't remember them all but I'll check my plan tonight and let you know tomorrow. I have a dark grey gloss kitchen in a period house with slate floor and wooden work-surfaces and I'm really pleased with the results. if you haven't committed to one shade you might give it a go! Its only paint!

Thank you all for the feedback. Jonathandb1972 you correct in that the flooring stops at the sofas, however we have all agreed that the chairs are not practical to retain so we will look to redo the flooring in that area. Thank you for pointing that out though, it was something that we only recently realised ourselves during a boat survey. Suki Shocker the vinyl is a great option, we have looked into that but are worried about the glue substance that is needed, as we fear it may be harder to remove than paint. We are looking at water based paints that may be easier to sand down and revarnish the underlying wood if eventually needed. But the painting is really something that we now will consider more carefully, especially as everyone on here has advised not to paint at all! Our only fear is that accessories will not be enough to brighten the interior. The photos were taken on a very sunny day with the maximum amount of light coming in through the portholes. Installing roof lights is also an option that we are considering. Thank you to all!

Damp proof (membrane) for floorboards

Firstly check where dump comes from. No point in replacing the floorboards if then there is too much moisture. Replace all damaged floorboards and make sure joists are sound and stable. Then you can add a damp proof membrane over the pine floorboards. Then you can add the underlay and the floating hardwood flooring on top. Solid wood flooring is the worst option in areas where there is moisture. We strongly recommend quality engineered flooring instead. This is a rather complex job if done properly. The installation of the damp proof membrane is crucial obviously and to do a good job you should remove the skirting boards. damp proof membranes are available from may retailers https://www.screwfix.com/p/capital-valley-plastics-ltd-damp-proof-membrane-black-1000ga-4-x-25m/88322 and all have more or less the same specs. The DPM is indeed required to damp proof anything above the structural floor. There is nothing you can do on the structural pine board other than making sure there is no water leakage and there is good ventilation. hope this helps
