When was the quote dated?

About 5 months ago. But we have been in constant contact and met 3 times after quote. There was never any mention of potential increases or an expiry date on the quote.

I think you have been unrealistic. Everything goes up from one year to the next and there is a reason why most quotes are only valid for 4 weeks.

I fully appreciate that costs change. But I also feel that there should have been some discussion or advanced warning of the prices changing. We were also given no time limitation on the quote.

Think you'll just have to compromise if you cannot stretch the budget any further

 TBF it's your responsibility to ask how long is the quote valid for.

I agree you should have been given both written and verbal notice of quote validity and likely cost increases. I went with a Howdens kitchen and took 4 months to decide on final design. But the designer did tell me that the original quote would increase on Jan 1st etc etc. You must sit down with your designer and talk this through. If there is no chance of reducing the price (most likely) then asking the designer to find you some cost savings is your only option if you want to continue with them. Good luck!

Did you have a written quote and if so what was the validity? Ours are 28 days then subject to change.

To add to my post above, how long have the kitchen company said it would take for them to obtain the kitchen? Why do you think it would take a long time to purchase elsewhere? We can obtain some of our fascias the next day and laminate worktops next day too.

We have a written quote but there was no dates/time limit noted. We agreed the price but had to wait for our extension build to be ready for accurate measurements before order could be placed.
The kitchen designer did very kindly warn us of price increases with the worktop supplier and advised us to pay a deposit with them to secure our price. But never mentioned price increases within her own company. Which I find a little odd.

Do you think it would be reasonable for us to try and meet them half way with the price difference?

You could always ask the question. Being a kitchen supplier myself l have lost count of the number of price increases we have had on carcases, fascias and worktops. lt seems never ending and of course in January 2023 yet another increase.

Alternatively could you find another supplier that offers the same design of kitchen or something very similar that is prepared to adjust their price to suit your budget.

If it’s £1500 extra then your supplier will loose £750 and if that were me l would say no. The market is unstable at the moment.

Shop around. lf the original supplier is buying in and not manufacturing themselves then lots of companies will use the same production supplier.

Where are you based? Are you fitting yourself? Which door and worktop are you looking for? I might be able to offer some suggestions.
