Hiya, If you're not keen on Venetians, you might like a Day and Night Roller blind instead - it's a Roller blind that works like a Venetian, as layers of fabric slide against each other to create the same effect. Here's an example: http://www.hillarys.co.uk/blinds-range/day-night-roller-blinds/ Alternatively, as has been thrown around, Wooden blinds (or Fauxwood to avoid problems with steam) are a great idea. If you add tape in a coordinating colour instead of cords then it does create a really luxurious effect akin to shutters. I know that Luxaflex do shades for windows like yours. Plissé or Duette shades.

I have a similar design concept going Into my new extension. it's a 3.5mtr door with side window meeting at the corner post. as were going for aluminium also, we spoke to the manufacturers and there also doing the side window in aluminium also which will be the exact height and size of the door. this means there is no difference in proportions or frame sizes and the cill will match in with the whole design. I would suggest speaking with the door manufacturer and see what option they can give. wish I could give you a more technical answer but I leave the details up to my other half as that's his trade.
