I would paint all the walls a soft buttery yellow - Restoration Hardware's Butter would be perfect. New window covering in the alcove could be a roman-style roll-up blind (you can find good inexpensive ones at K-Mart) that would pick up the tones from the wood floors and shutters. Art with red, gray and yellow matting hung in a grouping over the fireplace would add a classy touch. Your current furniture needs to be re-arranged in an attractive, more intimate way. Turn red rug the long way in front of fireplace and place couches across from each other on either side of the rug. Store some of the red striped cushions. Attractive but too many. Unclutter and re-arrange the items on the shelves. Rebecca

Catherine, It really depend on the style of your home and your personal tastes here. Black is my immediate thought as it works really well with the colours you mentioned and makes both white and silver look stunning. Black adds definition and a sleekness. To best effect, this would work well with Contemporary or Art Deco style rooms which is why I mentioned the style of the house. Do you have a picture you could upload? If you demand more of a statement then I would recommend Reds/Pinks or to be on trend and a bit more subtly try the Deep Indigo or Blue. I hope it helps and look forward to seeing the design. Concrete flooring for our extension was meant to go down next week and i've just be dropping in it by the fitter. Does anyone know people who lay concrete flooring to a level for polishing or someone who does it all. Job is approx. 75sqm in the Newcastle area. Many Thanks.
