garden advice needed

We have just done a big extension project out the back and have almost finished. Two bifolds go in tomorrow. Next we need to tackle the garden immediately surrounding the extension and work out what to do with the area around the new part / work out how to reconnect the two. We would like space for a table, seating and bbq areas but I don’t know where to start!!

What a nice space you have with some already mature trees and shrubs to give you structure! The start of any good garden design process begin with a list of what the client wants out of their garden. Then it follows up with observations of the nature of the garden space: aspect, micro climates, preferred spots, problem spots, the shape of the plot and so on. A good design will take all of these into account and give you a garden that has everything you want in it and distributed in the best way and obviously, with great aesthetics.

Don't use weedkiller in any circumstances, it pollutes your environment, kills insects , bees, mycelium etc and gets into the food chain. The best way to get rid of weeds is to alter your attitude to them . The definition of a weed is an unwanted plant. So ... here,s what to do.Dig out any large perrenial weeds. As previous comments , rotovate soil to remove any compaction. Add topsoil and add sharp sand. So here,s the thing , if you regularly mow your lawn i.e. once a week , it will kill the weeds, because unlike grass most plants cannot sustain being repeatedly cut back,and don,t worry about the odd weed here and there

Hi there, a lovely climber that needs little or no attention is an evergreen honeysuckle called 'Fire cracker' which grows in sun or shade. One tip for more flowers is train the plants horizontally not vertically. White jasmine is another evergreen climber that smells wonderful and again needs only to be tied to the wall. It has white flowers that give off a heady scent at night from June to September and in winter the leaves turn a glorious red colour. Cotoneaster is also a great evergreen shrub that looks great all year round and the bees love it. Mine is now climbing a wall but started off as a standard shrub. White flowers in the summer and red berries in autumn. Good luck xx

Garden room landscaping advice needed!

Following on from my post some time ago we have started the hard landscaping part. We have decided to extend the patio at both sides. We have the maple tree one side so there isn’t much we can so that side but I am hoping to have my outdoor table on the other side. My dilemma is the platform/patio is about 4ft above the lawn area. With a toddler I’m trying to make it more child friendly. I’m wondering if there will be too much of a drop off the patio onto the steps? I’m planning on having a lower level planter below the patio. Hoping that will soften the fall if someone did rum off the top of the patio! Or do I build a narrowish planter to run along the edge to stop kids going off the edge!! Looking for inspiration!!
