Microwaves - hot or not?
Comments (37)Hello Laura, It's an essay but succinctly.... 'Microwaves' are high frequency radio waves, like light visible radiation are on the electromagnetic spectrum. Normal conditions of use means there is limited cause for concern with thermal burns from hot food exposure to microwaves etc. Correct usage- including materials for cooking means that microwave ovens are convenient and safe. Manufacturing standards are strict and in constant revision. Food does not become radioactive once cooked and microwaves do not stay in food after cooking nor in the appliance! However there is quite a lot of written arguments and scientific citing for why microwaves are unsafe, leaking microwaves in damaged appliances, food containers that emit harmful chemicals etc, also nutrient loss due to this method of cooking. So people make a choice.. As long as the product is fit for purpose ie the seal of the door is intact and the appliance is not damaged in any way.. then the microwave is a useful and convenient piece of kitchen equipment. I do though like to maintain a distance even with mine and it's mostly used for heating up cold coffee and making porridge! :))...See MoreToaster or Microwave - which one would you choose?
Comments (25)Hello Anthony Edwards Kitchens, Oh what fun! I also enjoyed Seat Dreams response... Now lets see.. The toaster could burn whatever is put into it and possibly send a smoke S.O.S (as they do) (but not so gr8 if you're in a two bed semi in basingstoke) and if you then found despite your endeavours, you were cast away for a year and a day (Sans football) and could take it no more.. You could then if you were greedy and had the microwave too make a *%#*@%! This may send a bigger S.O.S and possibly make all the difference in the world... : ))...See MoreMicrowave Drawers UK
Comments (9)Except that at present my microwave is set into an island shelf with a unit door covering it. You have to bend to put anything in. I dislike very much having cluttered work surfaces and have no wall units. The kitchen was put in by a designer (not a kitchen designer) and looks wonderful but is difficult to use. I have been watching the Property Brothers (filmed in North America) which is where I got the idea for a microwave drawer. Comments (8)I can’t imagine having heating on just now! 🥵 If you have space in the fridge or freezer, pop your pillow or at least pillow slip in to get nice and cool before bedtime. And if you have a fan, put some ice and/or cold water in front of it so it blows cool air around the room. Then sit down and work your way through the operating instructions. If you have a hot water cylinder you can turn the boiler right off and get someone to look at it for you. Water will stay hot in the tank for a day or two if you don’t use too much....See More- 2 years ago
