Hi, we are renovating downstairs and I am looking at flooring ideas. We want the same floor to run through the hall, lounge, downstairs toilet, open plan kitchen dining and living areas. Given we have no under floor heating, what is everyone’s experience with different floor types?
Wood or LVT are probably the warmest, but not very warm, flooring without UFH. In my experience porcelain is the chilliest, I have it in my kitchen and I never walk barefoot in there! I have laminate in my living room and that’s quite chilly. Mind you the chilly floors are lovely during a hot sunny day. I think as long as you have cosy slippers and lots of rugs it will help.
You'll want Glue down LVT like Karndean or Amtico. This does not require expansion gaps around the edge of the rooms or in doorways and can be run through the whole of the downstairs. Be sure to have the subfloors correctly prepared and use High Temperature adhesive.
Avoid 'click' LVT's, these will be nothing but bother and despite claims, will need the same subfloor preparation as glue down LVT.
