Comments (8)I have white hydrangeas at the moment and love them but they haven't done very well (but it's a different climate where I am just now). Yes, I'll give them another go if they're ok on the edge of the Pennines - the new garden is in the Cairngorms. Perfumed flowers are a nice idea so I'm going to add the mock orange to my plant list. I've succeeded with cornflowers, forget-me-nots and love in the mist but funnily enough never had success with heather. To be honest there's plenty of the natural stuff all around so I'll probably give it a miss. I've a question about tall grasses? How would they cope with the weight of snow? Presently I have bamboo (about 1m tall in pots) and it manages to cope with big dumps of snow but I do shake off whatever snow I can before it freezes and the sun is out. I'm also considering alliums along with the tulips, crocus, snowdrops etc Other plants I'm thinking follow but I'm stuck for ideas for other times of the year. I've grown some of these from seed before and don't mind so much if they fail: roses lupins delphiniums solomon’s seal lily of the valley phlox peony Japanese anemone campanula grannies bonnets foxgloves helibore lilies gladiola dahlia geranium hosta rhododendron foxgloves agapanthus moon daisies canterbury bells...See MoreHouse front garden: hedge, bamboo, climbers or just a wall?
Comments (34)Yes anon2005 I’ve just painted my new under the stairs cupboard in Dix blue and everyone who comes in the house says how much they like it. I’m really pleased with it. I’m toying with painting the whole hallway with it. I find Farrow and Ball colours work well in our UK bluish light, whereas some brighter colours can look a bit garish sometimes. I’ve even cheated when I couldn’t wait for it to come into stock and got it colour mixed at Dulux....See MoreTime to start planning a garden design! Help and ideas please? ☺️
Comments (25)Oh my word! Dyson is adorable! so ickle!! Now I wanna find a Rune (his name - like rune stones.. not like Rooney 😂) sized box to put him in. Thanks for the 3rd design! I'm always impressed how you come up with such interesting designs (compared to my rectangle of grass with straight boarders I'd envisioned) I think we still prefer the 1st design in part because Chris want's to keep more of the grass. I'd be tempted though to put some sort of low fence to deter Rune from eating crops so maybe I could put some plants against it and growing up that to help disguise? I think the old paving slabs is the best way forward atm instead of the stones... I never truly appreciated how many stones there were just around the garden... just around on the grass.. close to the house and rubble left from the building work, random ones on the small remaining bit of patio that I think have been kicked in from the driveway... Ironically the pile of new ones all in one place are the easiest to keep him away from! (doing the driveway has also jumped up to a higher priority for the year! 🙈) Does Dyson like your Dyson? (assuming you have one) I managed to terrify him the other day when I tried to clear up some of the bits of grass we'd brought back in with us (despite having a treat at the time!)...See More- last year
