We restored and conserved this early 17th century staircase. The decision was made to conserve and keep the original colourful paint to show the patina of 100s of years of use rather than restoring it fully which we feel looks fantastic. New elements that were added such as the finals and panelling were left natural to contrast with the original painted features.

We started repainting a quite old (10yrs+) pergola and attached bits and pieces with this paint/stain a couple of days ago - we used Sargasso Sea, a natural-looking sage-y colour that's a lot lighter than it looks on the chart (but maybe a bit dark for you). Enormously impressed with the finish, which seems really tough, and will hopefully last. We now have to decide on a coordinating colour for the shed and raised beds......

It looks like a completely different room! I agree with others, particularly if you're not having a coffee table, I'd go for an irregular shaped rug such as a plain hide or sheepskin which will also add texture. I don't think a ladder shelf is needed, it may make the room look busy. Tripod lamps take up quite a bit of floor space, I'd look for a swing arm pendant or anglepoise or something where the shade is pointing towards the chair rather than upright. A plant is always good in a room and I thought this white dipped plant pot holder could work? I think its bold and brave, love the bright woodwork on the windows and skirting, the rest of the house is great too, the kitchen unit colour especially. It's good to see some colour on Houzz for a change! I was a bit surprised to see the original floorboards covered up in the sitting/dining room, I hope the new flooring was real wood!
