POLL: Fabric or leather sofa?
Comments (60)Although we've gone for fabric in this poll, we know that for most of us this very much comes down to a choice between comfort and aesthetic. Leather is a bit more of an acquired taste when you're talking about comfort, whereas the right fabric sofa comes with comfort built in. If like us you love great textile design, a sumptuous fabric sofa is definitely an opportunity to explore the work of some well established textile designers like Margo Selby or new breed upholstery & textile design houses like Native Flok in Edinburgh. Okay, so you may just be looking for a lovely, comfortable sofa you can curl up on and watch Strictly, but even then, if approached with a sense of adventure, navigating the brave new world of textile design can still be very exciting stuff!...See MoreAnyone else wish there was a 'newest post first' filter?
Comments (4)Thanks Emeline for responding. I get the reasons for not automatically deleting posts but perhaps there's room for the original poster's to have a way of marking the post as 'no longer active'. Or even an automatic label at the top of old posts that says 'this post is over a year old' so people newly visiting realise. That way people wouldn't be prevented from commenting (for example they want to know how they got on or ask for advice on a similar project) but would at least stop people unknowingly commenting as if it were still current and also stop it being bumped to the top of the feed. I also don't like sorting by 'unanswered questions' since you tend to end up with a lot of companies self promoting rather than people requiring an actual advice. All I want is to be able to see 'all' the posts but in chronological order whether they've been answered or not. Is there any chance of this being implemented? I think most people don't like having the way they see their feed manipulated - you only have to look at how frustrated people get with the new Pinterest or Facebook styles to appreciate that. We're all here because we love the community and you guys do a great job creating new content and discussions. Hopefully you don't mind the occasional suggested tweak that could make a great site even better!...See Morenew sofa or sofa made to measure?
Comments (8)The Luxury of made to measure bespoke furniture is you get to choose exactly what you would like your sofa be from fabric, colour, type of cushion filling to the exact dimensions you require. I also think the other advantage is you can also custom the sofa to fit the space in which it sits to maximise space. I would in my experience say that if you prepared to pay a certain amount for a sofa that there isn't that much in the overall cost but find that you may actually get a bit more for your money for instance a lovely feather foam wrapped cushion against a hallow fibre dacron seat cushion, sprung seat section instead of webbing that kind of thing. If you find a style why not ask for a comparison cost you maybe pleasantly surprised. My only real advise would be to make a full list of specifications for your upholsterer to work to such as how soft you would like the seat so he has some clear guidelines....See MoreNon-toxic sofa query
Comments (136)Hi all, I have been corresponding with Arlene Blum the woman who led the efforts to have FR free furniture. She is saying that the UK is currently having a consultation on this topic and to write to your representatives. " Please consider writing to the UK officials and letting them know about your concerns regarding the use of FRs in the UK furniture in order to meet ineffective furniture flammability standards. The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards is holding a consultation on its proposed approach to the fire safety of domestic upholstered furniture and furnishings. The deadline is October 24. You can encourage the UK government to follow a US approach, where the fire safety is protected without the need to add harmful FR to furniture." https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/smarter-regulation-fire-safety-of-domestic-upholstered-furniture https://greensciencepolicy.org/news-events/blog/webinar-recap-purchasing-fire-safe-healthier-furniture Please share widely with your networks and write to have the option to have no chemical fire retardants in our furniture. FIDRA has more information on this topic. Even industry wants to do away with this. https://www.fidra.org.uk/sustainable-fire-safety/mattress-and-furniture-industry-call-to-end-reliance-on-chemical-flame-retardants/...See More- last year
