Comments (22)If you wanted you could buy new deep lloyd loom style chairs..they come in all sorts of F&B colours. I wouldn't agonise too much about colour. obviously, you could go for the stone/taupe/ neutral colours but personally I would go for a soft purple/aubergine colour ( think natures colours) which would add the same depth of colour as your walls. Think a colour would mix the room up a bit. A cafe table looks gorgeous with flowers on which leaves room for a drink or magazine, & again, is a nod to the garden. magazines & books are hugely decorative & some say essential for a room. I use old books for the rooms I do & to add emphasis to the furniture I source. You can choose an interior magazine, monthly, with a cover that appeals to add seasonal change. Layer your room gradually , experiment & have fun. keep an eye out for the right lamps, shades & cushions & think big rather than twee. Oh! & essentials I didn't spot but could well be there are paintings & a mirror?!...See MoreMy new sofa - design ideas please!
Comments (5)Perhaps I should have explained this in my original post but it was all said as banter... as innocent joking. Me and the previous owner shared a similar sense of humour and telling him was done in regards to a joke he made about how they will probably turn out to be worth more than his baby's new pram. Obviously it was not done to gloat or be malicious, it was all said jokingly. He's also aware, as am I, that there is no way he would have been able to sell them on second hand for even half of their original price... especially with them being so ugly. I personally have always loved this style of sofa. Once we have decorated they will go wonderfully with my old sewing machine and my 1960s Welsh dresser. It's a bit of a niche yes but sadly some of us really do love the old fashioned grandad look. Most of you may think they are hideous or ugly and that I'm an awful person who deserves them however isn't this why we are all here? To share our tastes and ideas? To support one another and give tips? Honestly, I didn't expect to get a verbal bashing about how ugly my home, sofas or even my personality are... I believed it was fairly apparent that it was written as a funny post but as I said, perhaps I should have explained properly. I thought we were here to help each other with our homes, I hate my new home in it's current state and was very reluctant to post photos but believed it may be of use. I doubt I will try again. Comments (8)Hi, I had the same issue in a lovely old Victorian terrace I used to live in. I actually bought a sofa from Furniture Village that we could not get into the house. I'm sure this sounds like a foolish purchase :-) but I had measured before placing the order and in theory it seemed like it would fit. On delivery day however....there was no way they could get it into the room, there was just not the turning space in our tiny hallway to get it into the lounge, so it got as far as the hallway and back out again!! Panicking I called Furniture Village, who said they have a specialist upholsterer who would break the sofa down and re-build it in the desired room. If we used their recommended guy, it would not affect my warranty on the furniture either. I think it cost me about £120. It was quite disconcerting watching him basically take a hand saw to my brand new sofa, but true to his word he rebuilt it as good as new in my lounge. The sofa is now 8 years old and still looks like new.... I even used him again to reverse the whole process to get it out of the house and rebuild for my new home a couple of years ago :-) I'm not sure if all sofas can be dismantled and rebuilt in this way, or if any other stores partner with someone who can do this though. I probably would be nervous to buy a sofa with this process in mind, but as I had already created the problem by buying it, it seemed worth a shot!...See MoreCarolina
