How about a home bar or bar cart?
Comments (37)This is mine in the house I just sold. it was £5 off Ebay (and my friend delivered it for me from Wales, happy days) My partner knocked the alcove into the wall and a space for the wine fridge. All the glasses were from charity shops (and some really lovely ones from Sainsbury's) The donkeys head was in the sale at Abigail Ahernes Debenhams and I call it the Nags Head. In my new place it will be called Bottoms Rest after the Ass in Mid Summer Nights Dream :0)...See MoreShare your Christmas traditions!
Comments (49)Family traditions My grandparents from the 1930s until 1980s used to own a popular shop in a small town. Throughout this time my grandmother would increase her turnover every christmas by creating the most amazing handmade tree Angels and artisan crackers. From September until December it was a tradition of fairy and cracker making. I loved the glitzy fabrics, netting and bright tinsel that adorned the fairies. The cracker making was great fun the smell of the crackers when pulled was nothing like today. Just like Fortnum and Masons my grandmothers Christmas window display would be unveiled at the beginning of December, people would flock to buy her Angels and crackers. I never had one of the fairies and I often wonder if any are still in use today, I hope there is somewhere,in some ones home adorning a tree at the top loved by all as a tradition in memory of my grandmother. Sadly my grandparents are no longer here though the tradition of Christmas cracker pulling reminds me of the excitement and joy at Christmas pulling one of their crackers. Today nothing else cuts the mustard, even though I follow the tradition of making my own, of course I know what's inside. I hope my daughters and grand daughters will follow the family tradition in cracker making one day too. Peace and goodwill to all Ginny...See MoreAdvice for 1840's Welsh Miners Cottage reno + Extension (Floorplan)
Comments (34)Tough cookie. The footprint size is nice, but with a 6p family you'll need enough room to move around. If a loft can be added to the new part of the house, that'd be nice for storage. Folding stairs in the wardrobe? In the extension: First I'd like to say I imagined the extension to be designed like a house on it's own, glued together to the old one with a flat roofed 'corridor' with lots of rooflights. Main entry with wardrobe on the side. Kitchen with shallow cabinets on the front of the peninsula (storage instead of barstools) and row of floor to ceiling cabinets with a built-in 178cm fridge and a 178cm freezer, ovens, etc. Family dining area with french doors towards the back garden. Also managed to get each kid their own bedroom. Their bathroom has a shower and a toilet stall and two sinks. Separate toilet, for morning queues (and guests). No tub in the layout though, I don't know if you'd like one and what age your kids are.. Backdoor to enter the home (with your boots on) near the hall+toilet, with a hamper and also for emergencies. Footprint is slightly deeper on the left, but smaller on the right, square so you can add a roof similar to the old cottage? In the old house: Master bedroom with ensuite and closet area. Lounge room with a hopefully marvelous fireplace. Old front door stays the same from the outside, but unused. Maybe open up the ceilings and insulate the roof, so you'll have a vaulted ceiling with beams (all depends on what is allowed and how it looks in there). Haven't drawn in many windows, just imagine they are right where they need to be....See MoreRear extension to open plan extension
