Last idea - you could box out a fabric valance like this one. Your carpenter or Dad/Tony could prob make the box and then you buy extra curtains and have someone (or yourself) use the fabric to wrap and secure w staple gun rectangle is really easy to do. My bro made me some for the basement. If you like this idea we can talk about how big. The bottom edge of the valance should cover the top piece of window trim.

You could hang sheers in btwn like these. But the sheers would then stay closed almost all the time. This would be easy to try - just pick some up at home goods or sim. And add them on to your existing rod and see if you like. If not, return them.

You could consider getting natural blinds that roll up like these and hang them high to break up space. I’d hang them as high as the curtain rod and unroll them just past the top of the window molding. (Not like these are done) Would then really look like your windows are taller and are behind the natural blinds.
