Reply to: All LEDs should be labeled with lumens (brightness), color temperature (Kelvin), and CRI (that's color rendering index). Lumens are what everyone should learn to use instead of "watt equivalent." Old school 60 watt incandescents produced about 800 lumens; 75 watt incandescents produced about 1100 lumens. Color temperature measures how warm (yellow) or cool (blue) the light produces by the lamp is. An old-school incandescent was about 2700 K, "soft white" incandescents were about 3000 K. Daylight is around 6500 K. Color rendering index runs on a scale of 1-100 and measures how colors appear in the lamps light (this is different from color temperature). Look for lamps with CRI >90. Greater than 80 is acceptable for most people, but objects will look better with the better color temperature, and if you already have reservations about LED lights, maybe you are more sensitive to this than others. Salovna, you should be able to find LED candelabra bulbs and they should be labeled with the same information.

Reply to: If you are considering recessed downlight there are a few guidelines that you might want to think about... 1. Ensure that there is even light distribution- smaller lights at a 4' on centre pattern works best ( even if you have additional pendant lights - the downlight can layer in between to optimize even distribution) 2. It is recommended to start your lighting grid close to the perimeter walls (12-16") and work towards the centre- this way you you will avoid shadow patches on the upper wall and enhance paint colour and drapery treatments. 3. Don't be afraid that there are too many fixtures- by choosing smaller housings and white trim kits- they pretty much disappear as they blend into the white ceiling... 4. Ensure all light fixtures have bulbs that are around 2700K (colour temperature close to candle light and natural flame temperatures - as they have great health benefits), ensure that the lamps are dimmable so that they do not change colour temperature as they are being dimmed. 5. Don't forget under-cabinet lighting and any in-cabinet lighting to enhance the functionality...

Reply to: that blue table lamp is from Lamps plus. it comes in 100 colors and white or linen shade! https://www.lampsplus.com/products/smoky-blue-natural-linen-drum-shade-wexler-table-lamp__53f12.html something like this for your tv wall would be very nice. as a suggestion, I'd look into painting those beige tiles on the fireplace surround. Paint them a brighter white or black. here is a very similar fireplace w/a black surround .

Reply to: I have issues with sconces, especially when they don't relate to something permanent (like a fireplace) in the room. The ambient light they provide is often very harsh. If you do them, do articulating ones or they won't be suitable for reading. Why not just a couple of task lamps instead?

Reply to: CDR brings up a good point on the function of lighting and perhaps this graphic will help visualize this: Also, as long as the fixtures share the same finish family and perhaps similar element(s) then it creates some cohesiveness within the space. matchy-matchy is often overrated but symmetry is not.
