For example, have an oval coffee table, a curved armchair or an organically shaped bath.

bins A place for rubbish is something we can completely forget about when designing a kitchen. If your floor and surfaces are feeling overcrowded by different receptacles, it may be time to put your waste disposal behind a closed door. There are various solutions, such as a small pull-out container, or a larger cupboard dedicated to separate sections for all the recycling. Covering the container is advisable, as you don’t want smells lurking within your kitchen. Some designs have a lift-off lid, while others pull out from under a shelf, which acts as a seal. The pull-out bin here is housed in a cupboard beneath the integrated chopping board. This makes it easy to scrape peelings and rubbish straight over the edge of the worktop into the open unit below.

The floor is polished concrete, warmed by underfloor heating, and it runs outside into the courtyard, too, for a seamless indoor-outdoor feel.
Also, a dimmer switch will ensure you’re not floodlit every time you turn them on. Note how the architects have gone for white fittings, keeping the ceiling a uniform colour rather than making the light fittings a feature, as they could become when in a contrasting colour.

Worktop - Select materials such as Corian, quartz, steel or sintered stone [heat-bonded minerals and stone particles], which are non-porous, prevent stains and are easy to wipe clean. Solid surface worktops, such as Corian, are probably the most hygienic. they have a seamless finish and therefore don’t have grooves to trap dirt. This is why you see them used in hospitals and fast food chains. Position bins strategically - to ensure cleaning up is as efficient as possible, bin should be beneath the sink. Paint - Choosing a hardwearing paint finish will make this job easier. Use an oil-based eggshell, as you can easily wipe this clean without damaging the paint.

Consider pull-out storage If you’re lucky enough to have a pantry cupboard that goes from floor to ceiling, this idea will make life easier. Store all those heavy items, such as potatoes, in boxes on wheels at the bottom. In this larder, the homeowners keep bulky goods in crates on castors, which can easily be wheeled in and out.
