So here is the scoop on our move. When we were in the process of selling our last home we decided to move into a townhouse while we marketed our home. We hired a local mover to move the majority of our things into the townhouse and left some other items for staging during the sale. When the house sold (10 days later), we then used the same company to move the remainder of our furniture into our rental. So, when our new build was finally finished we hired the same company to move us from the rental to the new house. The lady had all of our records and seemed to remember us. My husband talked the her over the phone and asked her if she wanted to come by just to make sure she knew exactly the size of the job. She declined and said it wasn’t necessary. So, we were all set up with our moving date and the price of everything (we signed NO contract because she had moved us twice before....big mistake). Moving day arrives and the driver contacts the head lady and puts her on the phone and she proceeds to tell us that in no way can they move us for the agreed price and the job is more detailed than she thought. So....she is now trying to squeeze a LOT more money out of us and can’t really move us anyway because she has another job lined up for that afternoon. So, she ordered her men to LEAVE. No apologies, no admission of wrong....just left us there to fend for ourselves somehow. I was dumbfounded and totally shell-shocked. My husband, who is a sweetheart and has an extremely long fuse was furious. He managed to scrounge around and find us another company who could move us the next day. Never anticipated they would finish up at 3:00 AM!
Anyway, we’re in, it’s awesome waking up here every morning, and now we’re working out all the kinks (that seems never ending).
I will post pics of all my old furniture :) in the next couple of days as well as give some perspective on different things I like about my choices for this house and the various things I don’t like or are potential problems.
I did warn you all that the scullery is a genuine work room....it will be hard to make it look like a magazine :) ......here’s a peek..... The functionality of it has been incredible. I absolutely love working on the wood counters. The only thing i would do differently is make the sink a drop-in as opposed to under mount. Love the dishwasher drawer (the cabinet guys have to replace the panel front). It works and cleans the dishes beautifully. Love the sink with the recessed cutting board. It makes chopping fruits and veggies easy with no mess....everything stays IN the sink. Highly recommend a sink of this type. Love having everything out and accessible including the pantry items. Just grab what’s needed (no opening cabinet doors). I had debated whether or not to have doors for the pantry part (for looks only) and I’m so glad it’s all open. Funnily, just as I was typing this my husband came out of the scullery and said “We have a scullery and I love it!" That’s where he does all his prep. He even cooks his little veggie burger on the nuwave induction thing.
We will have to keep the backsplash fairly simple due to the fact that it’s super busy with all the "stuff" in the room.
