Why is this so blah? I could see this being what we specced out as we go step by step (similar floors, wooden island top, stainless appliances) so why do I hate this one so much more than others? is it because it is too symmetrical? No color anywhere? REPLY: This kitchen does not have decorative pendant lighting anywhere. There is no noticeable tiled backsplash. The paint on the walls is the same color as the cabinetry.

Craftsman style window - make the grill on the top 1/4 or so, though.

Thoughts on inset cabinet doors? They could look very pretty. I have seen them with latches that would be very earthquake safe, where the full latch and catch are on the outside of the door, and require you to turn then to open them. REPLY: I like and prefer full inset cabinets. The surface latches are a great look on upper cabinets. They are a bit mechanically cumbersome for doors that are used 50 times daily.

Bleh. Center "island" is both ugly and has no storage. Hanging pots - no thank you!

Makes me think we want the wood floors and wood island

Overall feel. Contrast between countertops and cabinets makes it not white on white on white. The floorboard a lot, too. Makes me think lacing in the wood floors is a great idea.

General Feel. Makes me think a wooden topped island, or something more "warm" than marble/granite. It is just so inviting. REPLY: I really like the result of mixing stone countertops with a wood island ( or possibly an 'accent' wood countertop section and wood farm table )
