Way pattern of runner is laid on the stairs; interesting how the floor below contains a circular design within the curve of the stair. Guessing this is only possible with a tightly coiled. staircase.

Best visual effect seems to be obtained when focus is on the flat vertical carpet between the steps is symmetrical & lined up with runner covering lip of steps. My guess is that the view from above would show that the far edge of each step (opposite to lip edge) does not line up with adjacent vertical piece, due to fanned shape of each curving step.
