Lighting
We once had a mirror in the bathroom surrounded by lightbulbs, which were on a dimmer. While it was ugly, it was amazingly useful in getting ready and seeing oneself. Could we find a tasteful way of doing this in the master bathroom? We would also like an overhead light on a dimmer (perhaps recessed) over the baths (in both bathrooms). Other bathrooms can have sconces from restoration hardware.
In living spaces, we generally use floor lamps and table lamps, but it is nice to have the option of universal lighting, such as recessed bulbs, on dimmers. We do not want to lower the ceilings in any living spaces though. We also do not like single domes in rooms.
Dining room will have a chandelier.
Family room can have floor and table lamps.
Kitchen: We need lights under the upper cabinets, illuminating the counter. Over the kitchen table and over the counter we can have a lights hanging from the ceiling (one over the table, preferably two over the counter; these could potentially be CB2 lights: http://www.cb2.com/loft-pendant-lamp/f8564). Over the cooking area, we want ceiling lights, likely recessed, unless that means dropping the ceilings; the bottom line is we want lots of light when cooking.
Living Room: We are debating having a ceiling fan in the living room. Recessed lighting, on a dimmer, is optimal if the ceilings can remain the same height.
Bedrooms should have ceiling fans with lights on dimmers and we will have bedside table lamps.
Butler's pantry and laundry room can have recessed lighting (ceiling height not so important). Upstairs hallway can have recessed lighting, or it can have sconces IF the recessed lighting would require dropping the ceiling heights.
