The soffit is built with clear cedar T&G boards that are coated with Sikkens semi-transparent stain. I believe the colour was "chocolate" or similar cooler tone. Takes a bit of the bright red out of the cedar.

This is knotted cedar. The look tends to be more rustic the more the knots are emphasized. Here, the use of the warm stain minimizes the impact of the knots and drives the design towards contemporary.

This is what I DONT want. Cabinet tops just terminate with no purpose below the ceiling. Rather bring the ceiling down over the cabinet tops and create a built in look.
