This would also be a compromise. Simple trim around the doors and windows and a crown on top.

This one is definitely a more elaborate trim that has just been mitered at the corners. More formal looking.

Here is one where the molding is pretty straight and simple, but the top of the windows and doors are trimmed out with additional pencil molding and crown on the top. This will be more labor... but is a more craftsman/colonial look.

Here is one where there is a bit more detail in the actual trim profile, but simple application around the windows and doors. This is just the plain mitered corners, versus putting the separate piece above the doors and windows. This is a nice in between.
