Suggested handles for Shaker style cabinets and drawers.
Good guidance for dishwasher placement. I think we've thought of most of this, but worth a read to be sure.
This distance from the end feels about right for allowing someone to sit at the end and not crowd the sink area.
Prep sink blends into butcher block counter seamlessly. This sink isn't ugly.
Useful pull-out shelf for spaces where you might want temporary extra surface.
Another recycling/trash pull-out drawer. Need to find dimensions.
Garbage/recycling pull-out drawer looks like it uses standard size garbage containers.
Pantry design tips
Glass shelves in front of the window work well here.
Wall hangers for pots and pans - is there a space that we could do this?
Photo saved for combo cupboard and open shelf above the fridge. I like the interest the shelf adds in a space that would otherwise be rather useless.
Backsplash behind the stove might look good with a white countertop and neutral or white subway tile for the rest of the backsplash. I like it a lot.
This article could be very helpful. Good approach for organizing storage areas.
Note baskets in pull-out drawers for easier access to things below.
Close up of pantry storage
Pantry is two lower drawers with upper cabinets. I like this combination of storage types. Looks like the tall cabinet next to the pantry might also be a large pull-out storage cabinet.
I like this island, the backsplash, the cabinets, and the lights. This could feel like home to me.
Light shades and window shades work together here to warm a white space.
This island has shallow drawers in front of the seating area.
Book shelves in just a portion of the island would make good use of potentially wasted space behind the sink cupboard.
Sliding doors covering the storage access beneath the back of the island ensures that open cupboard doors don't get in the way.
Another idea for narrow end-caps to the island seating area: wine storage.
I like the narrow bookshelves at either end of the island.
Interesting idea - a table placed in front of the island for seating. That way the entire island can be used for storage and the table can be moved in necessary.
Still pondering kitchen floor and how to blend with the rest of the floor, if we don't make it the same as the great room. This is one way to blend two floors; accent their difference with a patterned interface. Interesting idea. Not pushing for it, but intrigued with this look.
This set of drawers is too deep to be comfortable for someone seated on this bar stool, but it makes me wonder if we might include some shallow drawers on the seating side of the island, all the way to the edge, for table mats and napkins.
I like the complementary bar stools with wood that matches the cabinets.
Overhangs allow guests to sit along the sides of this island. I'd like to include pull-out extensions to our island for when we want to eat around it.
Wine storage under the floor? Interesting idea!!
Great idea to add counter space if needed.
Rail added to backsplash offers opportunities to hang things above the counter.
Under-cabinet shelves add storage without cluttering the counter.
Article about kitchen lighting; we may have seen this already but it's a good time to review and finalize our lighting plan for the kitchen.
This article actually has some of the most useful advice so far regarding kitchen cabinet placement (not directly, but in considering sink-adjacencies).
Pots, cooking utensils, and spices are all near the stove.
We could put wine storage under that island, facing the great room.
Spices in a shallow, end cabinet on the island. I like this solution for us.
Hint for pull-out cabinet width
Spice storage on inside of cupboards might work.
Narrow pull-out cabinet for spices
Spice storage cabinet idea. This seems to have efficient use of the shelf space and door shelves. It allows similar use things to be grouped together. However, not much room for spice overflow or odd -sized spice jars. I suppose we could just avoid getting those.
Helpful guide to planning our kitchen storage.
Island end cap includes a spice drawer (theirs is across from the stove) and a deep cupboard for a stock pot. I'd like two drawers - spices and oven mitts - and a stock pot or blender cupboard below (tall stuff that doesn't fit well into drawers). I don't want a fridge in the island though.
Read this article before designing the island cabinetry. There are some really good ideas! e.g., spice drawer on the end; deep cabinet for stock pot; tray storage; microwave shelf on the end cap; and others.
