Sectioned building style might be a great way to preserve the feeling of a working ranch rather than a luxury house. This is one of our original ideas-- not sure it fits with current thinking, but kept it here anyway.
Love the exterior siding/windows, and also the small private porch off a bedroom door. Could incorporate this with the sectioned building style-- with small decks off of each bedroom/living area.
Nice. Something I like in that design… maybe for main house.
The stone is perfectly in place in Colorado, but the alcoves and nooks (along with the scale) here give a European abbey/castle feel. I like that touch for capturing and combining our life experience into the ranch.
Big stone fireplace calls to mind a European chateau, but the pots on the shelves say American southwest.
This is pretty much the perfect fire pit scenario.
Ranch style meets courtyard inn. I quite like the idea.
Separate structures, but still communal.
Doors all along length of porch. For our family, reminders of a finca in Mallorca-- also reminiscent of UVA Lawn-- great to incorporate into family ranch.
The covered porch as a corridor between quarters.
Love the big windows opening to outdoor living. Also like how the kitchen is angled off of sitting space-- offers openness with some separation.
Really like the light, airy feel, but might need a wall of cabinets somewhere

I like some elements of this, including the ambient color/tone, the icebox fridge, and the ceiling. Not sure Clay would like this-- didn't get this far in the review.
Love the wood wall. Reminds me of The Stag (pub in Hampstead).
Great as a connecting corridor, but probably not practical for a climate with extreme winters.
both covered and open outdoor space, possible wind break advantage and brings to mind the courtyard/cloisters we've always liked. Not in love w specific materials used here, but like the concept.

I like this! Maybe a way to get a bunk bed or two into the design of the main house-- with sliders as in the other design?
