Could we do this type of copper with the strips and "buttons" and the rustic wood at the bottom? Would molding be better?

I saved this one because it illustrates the wood (molding, here) at the bottom and the copper wrapping the top. I don't like the look of this copper because it looks like it's soot-covered, but I like the mix of the two (molding and copper)
