Reply to: I like the applied doors, but I do not like the pulls. The thing I really dislike though is the fake drawers behind the bar stools. It makes the designer look stupid since if it was a real drawer you would not be able to use the drawer with a countertop above. I prefer a mitered edge on the built up countertop because I don’t like when I can see the line where they glued the extra piece on.

Reply to: I think when the cabinets are white, just the similarity to the white dining room uphostery will make the spaces more cohesive. I got lost in reading all the posts, so can’t figure out what you’re doing colorwise with the 12” deep cabinet, but hopefully it will match the white cabinets. I wou would try to think of how to bring something dark into the kitchen, like maybe black or dark orb hardware. Apologies if I missed that. Perhaps the legs of your island could be finished in espresso? I’d love that big island for prep!

Reply to: Like others you don't need to clutter up the space with tchochkes - and I am not sure why you would want to illuminate them. Unlit the space would just recede and no one would notice the gap. That said I have seen some kitchens in which a FEW genuinely gorgeous pottery of sufficient size and design interest are displayed - e.g. American Art pottery that is truly display worthy and not some piece of kitsch from Home Goods or the equivalent. And only a few in number that complement each other. But in general I agree that the putting plants and geegaws and swagging vines or flowers is not a good look. Better nothing than visual clutter.

Reply to: The dining room rug remains. I love it. I am thinking of hanging the curio on the right of window. I like how the large buffet wall looks now that we made changes. Might need to get larger urn or lidded jar for dining room table. Above the sofa table are antique Asian shadow puppets. I love them. The suggested dining room chandelier is magnificent. Where can I purchase them? Yes, to the wall in dining room needing either deeper paint color or wall paper. I have painted the dining room color many times and haven’t liked what we have done afterwards. It’s a “ cool” blue. I thought it would brighten the furniture. The adjoining foyer of this semi open concept home needs tweaking. Maybe I should part with the server? My goal has been updating my treasures, or tweaking the area. I am able to make new purchases to update if it warrants.

Reply to: I agree some of the responses are over the top. But I'll also point out one thing: pro responses are also cautionary tales for other readers who may not have yet undertaken their remodel or decorating project. So yes, the response may not directly help the OP, but it might prevent other Houzz users from making costly mistakes. It's not that we always advocate spending more money. It's simply that using professional contractors and designers may save you money in the long run so you don't have to spend more money to do things over.
