Thank you! This is our Alberene Soapstone, from our quarry in Schuyler, Virginia - right outside of Charlottesville. It is the only domestic soapstone quarried in the US and has been worked there since 1883. At one time the quarry employed over 2,000 people during its heyday. These slabs were supplied with a honed finish, but we also produce antiqued finishes or waterjet finishes as well for more texture. When left untreated, like in this kitchen, the slabs are a neutral blue-grey color with some light white veining. You can see in the photo below the difference between treated and untreated.
There are two colors that come from the quarry: Old Dominion and Churchill Reserve. Basically, the Churchill Reserve has less white veining and the Old Dominion has more veins. Our soapstone is available through a large distribution network so ask for it by name, either Alberene or Virginia Soapstone, at your local design showroom or fabrication shop. If you have any problems we would be happy to help. Check out our Alberene website for more information. Thanks again for the inquiry!
