shelves. some are leaning. cool for kids' books display. This office space leans toward a commercial aesthetic, with chunky industrial-style wood shelves and exposed mounting hardware. Some of the floating shelves are on an angle for display of more graphic elements such as magazines and small art. This would also be useful in a studio or even as a store display.
Tip: Inexact color and texture matches make things more interesting. "I am not into finding an exact match; as long as the colors and textures are in the right ballpark I’ll throw them together," Meisels says. "My gray woods are close, but are not the same, the drapes are a shade of the grasscloth, the zebra print is charcoal, the bed frame is more of a blue/gray and so on. This layering of shades and textures that are close but not perfect for me adds warmth and interest."
This is just a great room. See explanation: In spite of three chocolate brown walls and a chocolate brown door, this room remains surprisingly light and bright. "This room happens to be southern facing and so gets lots of light," Meisels says. "The bold wallpaper and bright furnishings also help lift the room from dark and dreary to bright and cheerful despite such dark walls."
Benjamin Moore® Natura® Paint in Decorator's White - $52.99 » I am a huge fan of Benjamin Moore Natura paint; I used this zero-VOC formula to paint while I was pregnant, and it went on like a dream. Decorators White is THE classic white paint.
Valspar's Patina is a similar color. Dark trim!

Silver gray. Lighter grays actually look silver, and they will appear luminous in a well-lit space. When paired with white, these silvery grays create a dazzling space that is also serene. There's nothing gloomy about that. Paint Pick: Zircon 7667 by Sherwin-Williams
Pewter. Like other neutrals, gray gives you limitless possibilities as far as introducing other hues. However, don't forget to include different textures and patterns, as well. This will keep the more saturated grays from appearing too drab. Here, a pewter (gray with a bit of bronze) wall color is tempered by a host of of fun colors and playful patterns. Subtle gray. A subtle gray tint is a nice alternative to white. Gray tints will provide a feeling of openness to small or windowless rooms. Paint Pick: Cascade White 2127-70 by Benjamin Moore
Your neutral can be all grays. If you decide to choose gray as your neutral, I think it looks best in warm shades that lean toward taupe.
Dark trim! Very un-boring.

two-color slipcovers: the skirt is fitted in a contrasting, highlighting color and fabric. I like the way that makes the chairs appear to be tailored sitting chairs, but creates a nice skirted look. skirt could be gathered, depending on the style of the room.
ruffly trim on the bottom edge of couch: subtle femininity but not overdone. Color on mirror: grey-blue
in small rm: use floor lamp on one side of bed to conserve space. Clear lamp saves space visually.

If going above a large piece of furniture, balance the piece by using a wider mat. The piece of artwork becomes large, in charge, and dramatic with just a crisp white frame.

incorporate vintage frames, family photos, and even an ampersand into this wall. What ties them all together is the black-and-white palette and vintage feel.

This clever wall-mounted shelf was made for family photos. Note how the designer has mixed in other objects among the photos and played with the composition until it was just right.
A grid of photos in identical frames without any matting makes a striking display; the square shapes resemble framed album covers
