When organizing your kitchen, look for ways to store items related to each other, such as mugs near the coffee station, as shown here.

1. Dedicated chopping and baking stations. Regular countertop height is fine for those casual weekly meals. But for larger, more involved recipes that require a lot of chopping, rolling or other strenuous maneuvers, a lower countertop is more ideal. That’s why some avid home cooks are gravitating toward dedicated chopping and baking stations that are often a continuation of a larger, standard-height island. 8. Vertical divide. This broom closet offers order via vertical dividers that separate the ironing board from the broom and mop. A dedicated space for these items prevents them from leaning against one another and spreading out, ultimately taking up more real estate.
6. Wide and smart. This closet is about 4 feet wide, more than plenty of room for a broom. It’s worthy of attention not for its size, but rather for its efficient layout. The pullout drawers could be used to stash all manner of broom closet items, such as furniture polish, dusting rags and rubber bands.
1. Side cabinet. This unobtrusive, shallow cabinet makes use of the paneled space at the end of the oven bay that is often purely decorative. No real estate is lost, and the kitchen broom gains a discreet hiding place.
Oil and utensil pullouts. In another example of well-designed cabinetry, narrow pullout cabinets on both sides of the range offer space for frequently used cooking oils, as well as utensils — a nice convenience for a frequent cook. Cabinets: custom, rift sawn oak, stained gray and glazed with a white glaze; countertops: white marble, Rye Marble; hardware: Vinci pull, SchaubRead more about this kitchenMoreThe 10 Most Popular New Kitchen Photos of 2017The Most Popular New Bathroom Photos of 2017
Undersink drawer. Given the plumbing fixtures that must go beneath the kitchen sink and the fact that there isn’t much room in that space for storage, this area can feel like a dank mini-cave. This drawer has a clever cutout that gently surrounds the plumbing, making available the good, clean space while keeping the plumbing hidden. Cabinetry: painted to match Light Pewter 1464, Benjamin Moore; hardware: Schaub; countertops: Rye Marble; sink: Strive, Kohler; faucet: Rohl
Roll-out pantry. When drawers roll out, as they do in this English pantry cabinet, you don’t have to worry about digging behind things to find what you need. The glass drawer fronts and sides also allow maximum visibility of items in the drawers while keeping everything in place. The sleek design works well for a contemporary kitchen.
