Reply to: @etphonehome, that makes sense. We have this center of the bathroom overhead light in this bathroom, so ambient lighting should be efficient? It has 1600 lumens and changes to 50,000 colors... I would have loved a chandelier but the bathroom is on 7'6" tall.

Reply to: first, Briwax won't do what you want. I'm a pro wood finisher with cabinets and wood furniture. If your cabinets already have a clear coat on them, (and the should) the wax is just going to sit on top and get waxy and yucky w/attracting grease and grime. that's a hard NO on using wax on kitchen cabinets. You've also got red oak. red oak already naturally has a pink tone. The pickling stain has muted it, but not enough. short of stripping them, staining, or painting, you're not going to change that look. Work with it, not against it. I suggest you look at tiles and countertops that work w/the pinkish/white tones, and forget about any blue grays or overall 'grays' for now. Some gray is ok, if you can find the right shade to work w/that wood. you'll have to get a lot of samples. Forget the backsplash for now. It's useless to try to even consider anything without getting your lighting, flooring and countertops. secondly, you can remove that florescent fixture yourself if you can DIY, and replace w/something like these You'll be left with what's in Pic 3. patch and repair around the ceiling, and install the guts to whatever light fixture you decide on. If going w/recessed lights in all of the kitchen, the electrician you hire will do all of this. The key to good lighting w/one of these is multiple bulbs and using a 4000K bulb. nothing lower or it will cast yellow.

Reply to: I wouldn't use either of those. I'd use Simply white. Here it is next to Alabaster so you can see the diff it's not a bright white, just a neutral white. any of those others are going to have undertones. the left one is pink (or red undertones) and the other is creamy more yellow. Using a neutral white isn't going to snow-blind you and it won't be dingy. The other thing you need to remember is your lighting. In your kitchen, why temperature bulbs do you use? you want something in the 4000K range or everything will have a yellowish tint. Here is Alabster, but notice all of the natural light from the skylight and windows. it's still a warm toned white, but all the natural daylight keeps it from appearing too creamy. Look over next to the vent hood. see the diff in color when not bathed in natural light? here is Divine White. look at the lighting from above. see the tone that is cast on the uppers? White Dove is another nice choice Cloud White Simply White And SW Pure White

Reply to: ah, ok great. yes, the floor is very yellow. just make sure when you do your new lights, aim for 4000K bulbs. You don't want anything below that because it will bring in yellow hues. I can already tell your bulbs lean yellow. look at Gautlent Gray on your island in your pic and the swatch of how it's supposed to look. Would you say in natural light the gray is actually more blue or more taupe/brown? try taking the photo of this same shot using your flash. see if it changes the color. Is your countertop Cambria? which one? and, what's going on w/the ceiling lights? are you not doing recessed?

Reply to: The type of light bulbs you use can affect the color of your cabinets. I switched to LED daylight. For the first few days I was not sure I liked it and was thinking of trying a different spectrum LED, but then my eyes adjusted to the difference. Now I like the daylight which deceases the orange/yellow hue of my stained cabinets. I did refresh with new counters, backsplash, short apron Whitehaven farm sink and under cabinet lighting. I am very happy with my refreshed kitchen.
