Idea for hiding the vent - they put cabinets with glass doors on bottom which I like - could do open glass shelving above or glass cabinet doors on both sides so you could enclose and still see straight to the hall

Idea for hiding the vent - adapted from this as if the vent was the drywall piece on the right side and instead of just a pass thru window. Ours would be thicker with shelving, just not as long to take up less space towards the dining room table. Perhaps wrap the portion with the vent in wood siding?

I like the small pass thru at the top for adding something extra. I would still like to go with putting it at an angle to match the wall on the other side.
