Fit in a shelf....Build out a wall. If you don’t have the option of recessed shelves, or if you want a larger shelf, you could have your installer construct a low false wall, in which the top surface serves as a ledge. The one here is at the perfect height for easy access, and the white tiles allow it to blend into the wall behind.r
A different way to create a niche....to avoid too much water splashing onto your low ledge, build another wall above it to act as a buffer. It won’t keep water from spraying down completely, but it will help. Here, the walls above and below create a wall-to-wall recessed shelf, and the contrasting tile turns it into a feature

A full wall of mirror (or at least extending to the vanity) really goes the extra distance to double the space visually. Could use a full sheet of mirror on the shower wall facing into the bathroom to open it up and add light without a window.
