As the heart of the home, Ruth wanted to renovate the old galley kitchen into a bright and spacious area. With this in mind, one of the key influences for the new kitchen was the ability to bring the outdoors in, which Ruth achieved with the innovative use of glazing. She chose two custom size Luxlite™ pitched rooflights at 1.2m x 1m, from leading rooflight manufacturer Roof Maker. Once installed the rooflights worked in perfect harmony with the custom made box window to create a unique space within the rear wall.

Small nautical master bedroom in Bologna with white walls and ceramic flooring.

Moving to a smaller place meant the owner of this quaint Lincolnshire cottage was determined to maximise space without compromising on character. With solid 18 inch stone walls, three entrances and an unusual floorplan, this small kitchen presented the challenge of adding value without taking away functionality. With alterations to existing plumbing and electrics proving impractical, we made sure every available inch of the space was useful, utilised and fully realised. After taking careful measurements and creating a hand-sketched plan of the owner’s vision, we paired durable Quebec yellow timber with bright Beech worktops. Painted in Farrow & Ball’s signature Elephant’s Breath and finished with gleaming chrome knobs, we transformed this small space into a practical paradise. This small slice of period charm adds modern conveniences to a historical property with seamless style and a clean, contemporary edge. Photos courtesy of www.chrisashwin.com

Although difficult to see the sunscreen blinds are lowered in this image providing much needed relief from the overly bright sunlight that enters the foyer area in the morning. Also important is the need for privacy given the clear glass that backs these roller blinds. The foyer area is nicely accented with the simple black sunscreen roller blinds complete with custom made pelmets. The treatment is light and functional - an important consideration for this heavily trafficked area Kit Haselden Photography
