This bespoke food storage cupboard is designed to be decorative as well as functional. The cabinet features original artwork and is framed in olive wood with its rich and interesting grain. The backs of the cupboard doors are fitted with storage racks for smaller bottles and jars.

Spires Interiors recently completed a new build project in Earls Colne, near Colchester Essex, encompassing the design and installation of a new kitchen and open-plan dining space, and utility room. The house is set in an incredibly scenic spot, and the customers have a passion for natural materials and in particular solid wood. They wanted a traditional finish in the kitchen, complemented by a colour palette that wouldn’t date, and found that our in-frame range offered exactly what they were looking for. The combination of different worktops works so well in the space as it adds character, charm, and a natural feel to the room, as well as warmth from the solid wood worktops. There is a living space at the end of the room and the colours and tone of the space reflect the relaxing area created. Made-to-measure doors and cabinets give us the flexibility to utilise every space in the kitchen by creating little units with pull-outs and custom-sized cabinets to make the room work as functionally as possible. The overmantle itself was manufactured in three parts after getting the specification from the design team and working with the clients to get it as the customers wanted. Working with these customers and understanding what they wanted was a pleasure, as they brought plenty of ideas to the project and were open to new ideas from our design team. Together we came up with a fantastic kitchen that they can enjoy for many years to come.

Choosing our component assembly option, each cabinet has been lovingly hand painted once assembled to achieve an antique - distressed finish with the warm golden tones of Oak visible around the door and drawers.

This small kitchen is located within a rear extension. My client requested Oak throughout, with a belfast sink. I incorporated shelved ends to display various decorative items, as well as offering easy access to every day items.

Oak topped cupboard and shelving unit. Re-using an old pine cupboard which had been in the family for a very long time. This was incorporated into some new shelving to create some more useful space. the old cupboard was striped and sanded back. The shelving was made from pine to match the original cupboard. The top/worksurface is made from solid oak and finished with an natural oil/wax combination. This creats a hard wearing, water resistant surface whilst keeping the natural look and feel of the timber. This finish is also very easily replenished/repaired or re done.

To modernise the existing kitchen in an old barn conversion, with no room for expansion, we had plenty of ideas to make this a glamorous kitchen, to be the heart of the home. Renovation of an old barn into a personal office space. This project, located on a 37-acre family farm in Pennsylvania, arose from the need for a personal workspace away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. An old barn used for gardening storage provided the ideal opportunity to convert it into a personal workspace. The small 1250 s.f. building consists of a main work and meeting area as well as the addition of a kitchen and a bathroom with sauna. The architects decided to preserve and restore the original stone construction and highlight it both inside and out in order to gain approval from the local authorities under a strict code for the reuse of historic structures. The poor state of preservation of the original timber structure presented the design team with the opportunity to reconstruct the roof using three large timber frames, produced by craftsmen from the Amish community. Following local craft techniques, the truss joints were achieved using wood dowels without adhesives and the stone walls were laid without the use of apparent mortar. The new roof, covered with cedar shingles, projects beyond the original footprint of the building to create two porches. One frames the main entrance and the other protects a generous outdoor living space on the south side. New wood trusses are left exposed and emphasized with indirect lighting design. The walls of the short facades were opened up to create large windows and bring the expansive views of the forest and neighboring creek into the space. The palette of interior finishes is simple and forceful, limited to the use of wood, stone and glass. The furniture design, including the suspended fireplace, integrates with the architecture and complements it through the judicious use of natural fibers and textiles. The result is a contemporary and timeless architectural work that will coexist harmoniously with the traditional buildings in its surroundings, protected in perpetuity for their historical heritage value.
