We went to Adam on a friend's recommendation after having tried to get a design for an extension and complete refurbishment over the line on several previous occasions with other professionals. He is like a breath of fresh air and combines all the qualities one could hope for when redesigning a home. Adam was constructive, creative in his work for us and helpful in recommending our construction partner. Costs rising thru discoveries and undiscussed details in the project made the process difficult at times due to a lack of overarching communication, but Adam's role was flawless and indeed our issues could well have been smoothed considerably had Adam been hired to Project Manage, which I would recommend if budget allows.

Gill and I began our long journey with Adam when we investigated modernising and extending a two bedroom bungalow. After initial discussion the consensus was to demolish the old building, design and erect a new dormer style bungalow on the plot. Quite an extensive undertaking which Adam guided us through. Adam translated our list of requirements and presented us with several design options including one developed from a Lego model we made. He patiently dealt with our questions and modified each design proposal appropriately not minding each time we changed our minds. Eventually we arrived at a design and Adam made the application for planning permission. Councils these days are overworked and planning applications can be difficult to see through. Adam through a combination of patience and persistence obtained planning permission from the council, the only delay was for a bat survey and a bit of pestering was needed to get final sign off. We found Adam easy to work with and welcomed his ideas and enthusiasm during planning so appointed him project manager. He helped us a lot with the detailed design advising on options for, bathrooms, windows, tiling and electrical layout. He has many trade contacts and was able to direct us to the right showrooms when we needed to view items. Adam helped overcome the inevitable problems that occurred during construction, not least of which was fitting the stairs. When Adam observed how well the house fitted onto the plot, blending with the street, I replied, “Yes, it’s almost like it was designed that way!” Thank you Adam for your contribution to what we believe is a brilliant modern dwelling that is energy efficient, environmentally friendly and meets all our requirements. Adam did a fantastic job helping us to re-design our 1960's house which was in need of a total refurbishment. He carefully listened to our brief and came up with lots of ideas which hadn't even occurred to us as possibilities. He was very professional and helpful at all times. Our builders were able to easily follow Adam's designs without issue and we changed very little at the build stage from Adam's original drawings. We now have a fantastic new single storey extension flooded with plenty of natural light (as requested) and we love our new space. The flow of the house is great, entirely due to Adam's clever design. It feels like a totally different house and it's provided us with a wonderful space for our family. We would highly recommend Adam!

Adam worked tirelessly to interpret and adapt our ideas for a single storey rear extension to our 30s semi. His guidance through the design process has resulted in a cost-efficient design, that maximises light into the existing building, integrates the existing kitchen into the new space, and provides maximum flexibility. He encouraged us to expand upon the original concept that we had, and worked to resolve neighbours’ concerns quickly, such that planning permission was granted promptly. We have met (socially distanced!) but most of our conversations and iterations were done over video conference, which he made work very well. Adam designed and managed a complex extension and renovation of my London apartment. Key to the success of the project were Adam's creativity in originating design ideas and his tenacity in coordinating the project's many interested parties. These combined into a successful project, on time and in budget.

Adam did a great job for us designing and overseeing the work done on our Edwardian Semi detached house. He suggested alterations to the existing layout where appropriate and also redesigned the downstairs where we made substantial alterations. Adam was very professional to work with but also very approachable and we felt like no question was too much trouble! Adam Fahey was recommended to us after we had a poor experience with another designer - I cannot over express how much happier my wife and I were working with Adam and knowing our project was in his hands. Not only has he gone the extra mile with design consultation with many site visits but also drawing after drawing explaining new ideas he's had. Adam is also dealing with our planning authority who seem to be changing their minds at every turn. Adam worked with us from the initial concept of our 2 storey side extension all the way through to completion. Adam challenged us with the initial concept, convincing us to knock down an internal wall to enlarge both kitchen and dining room, and put in a sky light, which is a beautiful addition and adds light to our new upstairs landing which otherwise would be dark and windowless. He drew up the drawings with various options, and submitted all the paperwork for the planning application. Our application was refused, but Adam submitted the appeal and we won. Adam then helped us pick the builders, after writing up the detailed spec for them to bid against. His knowledge in putting that specification together certainly minimised issues later on with the builders. He made sure we had a schedule, and payments to the builders in stages reflecting the work they were doing - so when schedule slipped, staged payments slipped too. I am sure that no builders are perfect - ours weren't - but having Adam to be the interface - to speak and understand "Builders Speak" and to negotiate and ensure that we weren't bullied into doing things we didn't want to do but which were easier for them, which meant we got the new home we'd been planning for years. We would recommend using Adam without any hesitation. Not only for the design and planning, where he added to and significantly improved our own ideas, but to project manage the build as well. His knowledge saved us more than his project management fee, without a doubt! Adam is also a very nice chap - he listens, is flexible and has a great sense of humour, but still will have harsh words with the builders when it is required. Our extension was a journey that started 7-8 years ago when we moved here and started thinking about extension. After several years we made the step to engage an architect, and chose Adam. It's a scary thought, starting a project like this, so having Adam to guide us through the whole process was very reassuring.

I have dealt with many architects over the last 25 years and found that many produce designs that bear no relation to the budget - thus wasting everybodys time.
