About Us

Lacey Architecture is a young, open-minded architectural design company passionate about residential design. Each project is approached by considering your requirements, context and your budget. We listen to our client's requirements and provide a high level of practical support and advice throughout, particularly for those who haven't built or extended previously. As well as a quick turnaround and pragmatic approach for those in the construction industry or with more experience. We combine fresh contemporary thinking with an unusually high level of hands on practical experience. We love buildings that are logical, economical and straightforward to build, while layering details in a considered and practical manner. We have a passion for practical, achievable sustainability without relying on expensive 'bolt-ons'. Cohesive design and considering the surroundings allows the building to be responsive and complement the context. We are able to assist with survey drawings, planning/lawful development packages, Building Regulation and construction drawings for all scales of residential and commercial design. We have absolutely loved working with Verity. In the very first meeting where we discussed what we were hoping to achieve it was obvious we were speaking to someone who could be trusted with making some pretty substantial alterations to a home that we absolutely love, and didn't really want to change, but have outgrown. We approached Verity with a rough outline of what we wanted to do to add space and she was immediately full of ideas but also very mindful of how much we didn't want to lose the things we already love about our home. What has really stood out throughout is just how much she listens and picks out the things that really matter to us, then translating that into a variety of options for us to consider that all met the brief but in quite different ways. The time, patience, attention to detail and countless helpful suggestions and bits of guidance, along with a welcome dose of good humour, have all been essential in getting us to a set of final plans (2 storey side extension with kitchen and bathroom refurbs) that we love and can proceed with confidently knowing that there couldn't have been more care and attention given to them. It is so clear that Verity really cares about getting things right for her clients, and her enthusiasm for her work and making our house the best possible home it can be really shines through. Verity worked with us on our extension project in 2024. We found her to be extremely responsive with a keen eye for detail. Although our project is not huge, Verity gave it her full attention and came up with very creative ideas and solutions that matched our requirements perfectly. She is very friendly and listens carefully to clients. We are delighted with the design she has suggested. She kept us informed along the way about progress and was very clear about the stages of the RIBA design process and costs involved. She offers a range of options in the design process and we could choose which ones were best suited to us. The design presentation was fantastic and Verity came up with lots of ideas we would never have thought of. The detailed designs Verity produced allowed us to get accurate tender quotes. Your project was one of the more challenging floor plans to resolve! The house has had an unusual and varied history (multiple commercial use), leading to a difficult to live with floorplan for a family home. However, after a bit of head scratching over the plan, it now feels a fantastic and calm home and each room has a clear flow and purpose.

The quality and finish is a real testament to your patience, eye for detail and the skill of the contractors. It looks wonderful Duncan!

We had a fantastic experience with Lacey Architecture. We came to Verity with a fairly rough idea of what we wanted to achieve. We were hoping to replace our garage and porch while providing some additional form of home office space. We didn't have any well defined ideas of how exactly we were going to achieve it or how we wanted it to look. Verity took the time to talk with us, suggesting a range of ideas, and providing excellent detailed sketches and 3D artwork for the options to help us come to a decision we were happy with it. She also provided really helpful guidance for commissioning drawings from her, the stages of the planning application process and selecting a contractor. The full set of drawings including having a green roof on the garage, as well as additional drawings when our contractors asked for extra details. Part of our requirements were for a sound proofed music room, and she did the research to really explain to us what that would require and identified potential systems we could use to achieve our goal. We are very happy with our finished build, particularly some of the details she suggested that we wouldn't have thought of that really bring the whole design together and enhance the look and feel of our home. We would, and have, happily recommended Lacey Architecture to others.

My wife and I had decided we wanted to continue around the back of our house an existing side extension built in the 1990's. We quickly exhausted our own ideas on how this could be done and realised if we were not to make a dreadful and expensive mistake we needed professional assistance. After meeting three local architects we chose Verity on some very simple bases. She was prompt and reliable and as it turned out, very efficient. If Verity was visiting she arrived at the time and date arranged. Drawings arrived on the dates agreed and timescales were always kept to. Verity was patient in her dealings with us and helped us reach conclusions about the build that we had previously struggled with. We also felt that as a younger architect she would bring a more contemporary eye to the project than might be the case. Her manner was always professional and considered but at the same time friendly and agreeable. What really helped was her ability to see through the complexity of the build and alight on viable and interesting solutions where we could only see problems. Her attention to detail is meticulous and her clear understanding of the principles of construction meant key engineering issues were not missed. The rocketing costs of building materials and work meant that we needed to find ways to cut the cost of the build once we'd accepted a quote and chosen a builder. Verity was instrumental in working with us and our builder to find ways to reduce costs without compromising the overall look and feel of the project. Once again, her knowledge of the building industry was a great help. If anyone was looking for an architect for any type of project, I would have no hesitation in recommending Verity.

I’m so pleased we found Verity to help us plan a small single storey extension with a reconfiguration of the existing internal space to create a kitchen/diner/living area with separate utility room. A great communicator who’s quick to respond to calls and emails, she listened carefully to the brief, was very patient when the design went through various revisions, and had excellent advice and suggestions. The result is wonderful – balanced, transformative and far better than I could have imagined. We even built the patio she designed! Should we ever embark on another building project, I would definitely hope to use her services again.

Verity has been so helpful and supportive in seeing through our single storey rear extension, which has transformed our house into a wonderful family home. She really listened to what we wanted, and was able to take our vision and translate it into a design that needed very few tweaks before finalising for planning approval. The level of detail in the drawings helped us to understand what was achievable in the space. It also provided all the information required throughout the design and build process. I especially liked the way in which Verity outlined and explained each stage throughout the project making something that could seem complicated and overwhelming become simple and achievable. She was also very quick to respond to any emails or phone calls and we were always kept up to date with progress. Having recently completed our project we are very pleased with the outcome and would definitely recommend Lacey Architecture, so much so that if we were to have any further work done on our property, we would certainly use her services again.

We couldn't have asked for more. Verity is very professional, she's prompt with her replies and thorough. She listened to what we wanted and was very careful to make sure this was reflected in the brief. She completely reimagined the layout of our old cottage and has really made the most of the space. She did our planning applications, which was less painful than I imagined it would be. The whole process has been smooth and stress free for us and that is down to Verity explaining everything as we went along and being so efficient. Our builders have even complimented the quality of her drawings and electrical plans, which apparently they don't do often!
